no offense, but that furniture and decor wouldn't even have been marginally stylish or cool back when that junk was new....

On the plus side, he's done a nice job cleaning up all that wood.  It sure didn't come out of the thrift stores like that.

That's about the only wood that'll ever be in that room.

The presence or absence of a woman does not necessarily dictate wood.  I bet that flatscreen sees much porn.

It does help, though.

Paige, I am willing to travel and I DEMAND an invite to your next party.  That HAD to be quite a bender to cause the 70's to throw up that violently all over your living room

Also, considering painting the whole room orange. I am not supposed to paint in my apartment, but the place has been bought and sold since I moved in, and the present absentee landlord has never even seen the place. Plus the existing paint/walls are in terrible condition and would need to be repainted when I left anyway.

But, I got the apartment $100 cheaper a month than usual due to the poor condition of the carpet and paint, that has saved me $6000 so far, and I might still live there for years to come, so a little bit of money to paint, and then paint back white when I move will be well worth it.

Also, the giant couch doesn't look quite so "grandma" in person, the flash was making it look different.

We picked out creepy pictures on purpose.

A little retouching can do wonders for those creepy thrift store pics.  For example, this one hangs on the bathroom wall out in my gameroom:

Leave the poor guy alone with his "womenz" problems, with taste like that, he's got far far more issues to deal with first.  :)

Seriously, 40's style is cool as is 30's and 50's... you've got a really creepy late 60's early 70's thing going on there.  The problem with that is all things from that era looked awful (probably due to all the drugs) and nobody ever looked back once the 80's came along.

Actually I think the ugliest period/type of furniture is that late 70s/early 80s western type stuff with the thick wood frames and the coarse material on it. And almost anything newer than that falls apart if you touch it, unless you spend a fortune on it.

After recently having a date that went well enough that an actual woman saw my apartment I decided to redo the whole living room.

To hell with decorating the living room. What really matters is having a decorated bedroom, bathroom and having a sturdy kitchen table. At least, thats all that matters with the girls I date.

By fortune, do you mean more that $32.50 for a bedroom suite?

No way!

That picture of the mother and daughter that's above the TV was in my house over my couch when I was growing up in the 70's.  Like an oil painting or something.  I wonder if it's the same one?  Maybe it was just popular back in the midwest - my mom brought it with her from across the river in Woodriver, IL when she moved out to Cali.

There was a second picture in the same genre that was up there too.

What the deuce?? Is that my juke there? Mom better not've thrown out Grandmas jukebox.

Can't have a grill inside!
Just last night I was reading the 'Summer Storm Safety' sheet that the town Light and Power mailed out.  Among "have flashlights" and "unplug major appliances" in the event that power goes out, they threw in "do not grill indoors".  At first, I couldn't understand who would do that.  Now I do.

Funny story about that. I used to work at The Home Depot in the returns department. Do you want to take a guess at how many people would return their BBQ's for that reason?

I don't know who is at the bottom of the IQ rope, people who try to use their BBQ indoors or that mother who bought her six year old a new lawnmower.  :dizzy:

According to a few people who are actually know a bit about the respective subjects that big couch and that TV are both actually fairly valuable pieces and should not be messed up, at all.

Also, the pictures are pretty much fine once I get rid of those victorian pictures.
