Finished my vintage living room.
« on: July 10, 2007, 04:44:14 am »
After recently having a date that went well enough that an actual woman saw my apartment I decided to redo the whole living room.

So I went around to the thrift shops with a few female friends and these are the results. Note, almost nothing in these pictures was in my living room before other than the cocktail table and the flat TV. I didn't even have a couch.

Budget was about $200, $300 if I count that Gorf mame.

Also, the giant couch doesn't look quite so "grandma" in person, the flash was making it look different.

We picked out creepy pictures on purpose.

Except for the LCD and the Gorf machine, we have completely opposite tastes. All you need to do is put a plastic cover on the coach and we'd be in that 70's show's living room.  ;)

Oh thank god I wasn't the only one that looked at that and thought "holy crap that's creepy".

Dude, last time we saw you wanted to get a woman you bought a scooter and a motor home.  This time you're decorating your apartment intentionally creepy?  Why?

Trust us on this - even if your taste thinks creepy is kind of funny - women don't like creepy.  Especially from an older single guy they don't know well.  Few things will get them out of your apartment faster than creepy.

Very disturbing!  I can't imagine any woman spending more than 2 minutes in that apartment.  And that 2 minutes will be spent in complete fear.

I'd say that's almost definitely a juke, yeah.

You know, I hate most of it, but think the couch would actually be pretty sweet if it was reupholstered.

They can't be any worse than the 2x4s inside my couch that, after only two years of fairly gentle use, are already trying to pop through the back.  Never again, Bob's Discount Furniture.  Never again.

my actual opinion

the couch I actually like, big, looks like it could be comfortable.  I would get rid of one of the coffee tables, less is more, there is nothing wrong with being able to walk more than 5 feet without running into something.

I don't understand the TV on a TV, I get the retro TV, that's great, but that is a lot of area taken up for nothing, and having a TV on top of your broken TV is a little Trailer parkish to me.

And if you really want to get women to spend more than 2 minutes in your apartment, GET RID OF THOSE PICTURES, they go beyond creeping me out.

But that is just me, maybe this fits you and your friends, if so more power to you.    So.... whatever floats your boat I guess.

Can't have a grill inside!  He can, though, hang it off a 2x4 braced inside the window.  It can hang with nylon rope.

Can't have a grill inside!

Just last night I was reading the 'Summer Storm Safety' sheet that the town Light and Power mailed out.  Among "have flashlights" and "unplug major appliances" in the event that power goes out, they threw in "do not grill indoors".  At first, I couldn't understand who would do that.  Now I do.

The hotel of an uncle of mine was burned down because someone was cooking on an open fire inside. The hotel was used to house refugees from Africa and they didn't know how to use the stove so they made a fire to cook on.

I guess they couldn't read the "do not grill indoors" warning :P
