WinXP + AdvanceMenu = nothing??
« on: April 07, 2003, 09:41:11 am »
Since getting my video card back and reinstalled I did a reformat and reinstalled winXP. Copied back over my mame directories (mame37b16 and advance menu), deleted all my configs, ini's, rc files, etc. mame -cc to recreate a new config. Run advancemenu to create a defualt .rc, run it again to create mame.lst. Run it again, which should actually launch the frontend and NOTHING. I get an hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing. Same with advv and advcfg- nothing happens. Mame by itself runs fine- i also tried .53 and .66, as well as mame32

I know it works 'cuz I had it going last time I had XP installed. I don't have anything fancy setup, basically just XP and radeon drivers. My drive is partitioned into 4gb C:(os) and 16gb D:(mame) but I know it works on different drive letters.

I'm stumped

yeah i had the same problems with advmame - i was trying to get it set up and it just constantly and without exception froze up,  though only with advcfg (yes I had everything set right).  Anyways, HC informed me the keyboard led's don't work in XP with Advmame, so I'm just going back to the regular binary.

It's not freezing up though, it's like it thinks about running and then decides against it

<edit> This is with the regular build of mame37b16, not advance

Yup- well actually I just used the generic NTSC tv as given in the docs
I was looking thru the compatible video cards and my exact model isnt in there- there's a bunch of different radeon 7500's but the all-in-wonder isn't explicity listed.
I've been playing with the -log switch on the command line and it's looking like it can't find a good mode so Ive got a little bit of messin more to do before I give up
