Another friggen ice storm
« on: January 13, 2007, 09:53:54 am »
Here in Central IL.  I still have power, but for how much longer?  Looking at the Ameren map, looks like it stinks to be in the STL area...again.  How are you other midwest BYOACers doing?

During the Nov storm, we were luckly and only were without power for 22 hours.

Good luck bud. We have power here near St. Louis still. It didn't hit this area as bad as it hit in November. We lost if for 5 days then, and we lost it for 5 days in the summer during the big wind storm.

Looks like we are both a little uneasy. I don't ever remember worrying so much about the power going out.

Of course, the kicker to this is that they are going to raise our electric rates!

We've been getting some big storms here in Southern Utah lately.  The pics below are the result of a single storm on the 27th or 28th of Dec.  It dropped 18" on us.  Since then we've had two storms that were nearly as big.

So far in Minnesota, it has been perfect! We have had almost no snow. It is butt cold right now but it isn't snowing or dropping freezing rain. :) I like it. I hate the snow. As soon as junior is out we are going to move to AZ. I can't wait.

In the Netehrlands we just had the hottest year in centuries (as far as they know I guess). Normally we have snow every year during winter, but so far no snow at all. Not a single flake.

The weather is completely messed up. Actually it's so messed up that the flowers are blooming already like if it was spring!

If you guys moved out to West County, you wouldn't have power outage problems.
But there I'd have to deal with all those friggen arrogant Cardinal fans. :-)

No snowfall in Dallas. Just lots of sleet. I'm still not sure how I'm going to get to work in my 2-wheel drive F-150. I think I'm gonna suck it up, take my chances, and pray that everyone else was smart enough to stay off the roads. It's 25 degrees out there and it's been sleeting all night. I'm expecting a sheet of ice.

It has been a REALLY WARM winter here.  We haven't had any snow beyond one or two dustings that didn't stay.  We were running around the woods in sweatshirts a week ago.  It's raining today and it's still not even close to cold enough to freeze.  That is very abnormal in New England, especially in January.

Here in WV we usually have fairly cold winters with a few good snows. So far this winter, we have been having temps in the 60's and 70's fairly regularly. We might have one cold day a week, and I've only seen snow flurries twice for like an hour at a time.

There were frikkin birds chirping outside the window yesterday. That was very weird for January.

That's sounds just like me.  I'm more comfortable behind the wheel of the truck, but when it comes to stuff like this, I'd rather be in my little Cavalier.  Sure, all the heavy vehicles can crush me with ease, but I've got better control.  Don't get me wrong, I'm an ace on snow, but it's the other million or so in OKC that scare the @%$# out of me, plenty of them being uninsured.

It doesn't help that only a fraction of the roads got the proper treatment or that all of the sleet solidified into a few inches of ice.  Some yuppy-lookin' #@$# in a decked out SUV decided that he wanted to ride my butt across an ice-encrusted bridge, even after I'd signaled that I would be turning.  Some people are under the illusion that two extra drive wheels automatically mean that you can drive the speed limit on the ice.  New flash:  You may have the traction to get up and go, but you're not any less likely to eat my bumper instead of stopping. :soapbox:

DAMN YOU AL GORE!!!!!!!

On IMDB.com there is a poll to for users to vote on who they think deserve to win the Oscars.  It isn't multiple choice, it's fill-in-the-blank.  In the scary movie category An Inconvenient Truth is in fifth place.  I got a kick out of that.

Heh.  Winter is back.  It's well below freezing today.
