Just installed a Betson Multisync and ArcadeVGA...
« on: September 26, 2006, 12:35:05 am »
I installed the drivers, and then installed the Tri-Sync util. The monitor is getting an image fine, but the color is way off. What's the best way to correct the color? I'm sorry, but I've never owned a arcade monitor before so I'm kind of new to this :)

maybe you just need to degause the monitor. Sometimes you get wrong colors cause the way how the monitor is setup (magnetic field). Hope thats all it is...

Nah, that didn't change anything. Here's a pic (if it helps):

The color is off. Am I supposed to adjust anything initially, or is automatic? The monitor is new. Man I hope it's not the monitor...

Facing the monitor east has made a big difference, but I'm still not sure about the color. Compared to the pics in the Retroblast review, the colors just don't look right to me. Hmm...

I would check the following:

1) Just for curiosity, I would check to see if you have a bad VGA cable by trying a different cable.

2) If you have the ability to swap connections somehow, swap the color pins, for example green with red.  This will tell you if the problem is in the monitor or what is sending it.

3) If Green is dead, I would recommend contacting Betson and see if they would exchange it for a working one.

thats a good bet on the vga cable,i had the same fault on an arcade piece which turned out to be exactly that
also the convergence is out-if its a digital chassis then there should be an adjustment for that on the osd advanced menu

Since I just bought it, I'm going to contact Betson to do an exchange. The VGA cable isn't swappable, so I can't try a new one. Thanks for the help, I guess I just lucked out with this one...

Could you post some comparision pics of the same game running at different resolutions? I have not seen and ArcadeVGA working on these large Multi-sync (15Khz-SVGA) monitors before)..

Sure, as soon as I get the software all set up. If only I didn't have work and school...  :hissy:

Heh, I find there is never enough time for this kind of project. I just realised that I bought my IPAC over 3 years ago, and have still not built my cab. Argh.

Hey, I tried using the MAME Resolution Tool this weekend so I could see it in action, but the tool seems to be picking resolutions that are way off. Once I get this figured out I will take pics, but I have midterms this week so it won't be til the weekend :(

I have this monitor as well. Let us know if when playing games at 15khz you get the rolling over the hill affect. Especially noticeable on side scrolling platform games. I know I do :(

Hey, could you explain a bit more about "rolling over the hill"? I take it you don't mean vertical rolling...?

I'll have to check it out. How do I change to 15khz? I didn't see it in the Mame resolution tool.

Most of the modes the ArcadeVGA supports are at 15Khz - once the drivers are installed anyway, I think (I don't have one).

They won't be listed as 15Khz, but resolutions such as 288x240 @ 60Hz are 15Khz resolutions. 640x480 @ 60Hz (The lowest typically supported by windows normally) is 31Khz - the lowest supported by most PC monitors.

The rolling over is best explained as the graphics get squished at the sides of the screen. You will notice it right away when playing games like Ghouls-N-Ghosts, Xmen, Shinobi basically any platform side scroller.

If the image is 'stable' ie the whole screen is not moving up or down or left and right, but lots of the image is compressed into the edges, I would suggest altering the monitor controls when in that mode.

Try reducing the width of the image.

I would also like to see some pics.  I plan on using the same setup.  How much did you pay for the monitor if you don't mind me asking?
I b**ch. People listen!!
