NEVAEH II (project announcement)
« on: June 07, 2006, 11:26:23 pm »
I have started a new arcade cab loosely based on the Ultimate Arcade II cab.  This is the second of my arcade cabs. The first was a cocktail cabinet. I will post various updates here, but if you want to see all the pictures, read the blog, download plans, templates and what not just head over to the website I created for my arcade cabs: NEVAEH arcade projects homepage

Take lots of pictures of the dog!

Looking good. You guys with your MDF only are braver than me. I have to make a wood frame first...

Well our first cabinet had 2x2 to help brace it.  This time around we decided to give it a try without the 2x2 and just use metal braces and it's feelin pretty darn sturdy.

Oh btw I've attached current pictures of where we are at.

OK just updated the site with pictures from day 8.  I've attached a few here, more on the site.

Tomorrow I will hopefully finish the paint on the base, and cute and assemble the control panel. I'm really getting excited this is all starting to come together.

Thought I'd also post the temporary control panel overlay and layout I'll be using. It will be temporary until i can buildthe 4 player CP of my dreams.

*EDIT* I posted the wrong overlay. It will be pretty much the same but the lines that go off into nothingness. I'm not sure how those got on there. I think they were left over from another design I was working on for someone else.

Finished cutting the control panel. We assembled the control panel base and attached the two. (I'll post some pix later.) Also had enough time to primer the drawer and control panel top.

I also decided not to add the trackball to this control panel since it will be a temp one. I don't want to do all that routing just to set it aside sometime soon. So I will be re-designing the CPO.

I just thought of a different way to add flair to control panel. Instead of creating a CPO what I think I'm going to do is print out some pictures of the characters and graphics I want on the CPO on photo paper at my local grocery store (my GF knows the photo lab girl there so we get it done for free).  The cut out the characters and graphics with an exacto knife. Then Decopage the pictures to the control panel. It is something I've seen my GF do to a table before and it came out really nice. It leave like a clear waterproof seal over the pictures. I thought I might give it a try and see how it works out since this is only my temp CP.  :blah: OK enough of my rambling I'm off to bed.

Make sure you post some pix of that decopage, I'd be real interested in seeing how that turns out....

I am actually testing the decoupage thing right now on a painted scrap piece of wood. So far I am noticing streaks over some of the pictures, but I am pretty happy with the results.

I think this could have its applications for certain people. I will be posting some of the pictures of the test later tonight.

I'm planning on using a HP inkjet printer to print my side art.  My primary concern is if I can put a clear coat on top without smearing the ink.  If it doesn't work out I'll pay the $$ to get it done on plastic.  Yesterday I tried to coat a picture with Krylon clear coat spray.  Success.  No chemical reaction with the ink.  I'll do one more test with a full size picture, on a representative piece of painted wood.

Something to consider.
