You're comparing Zod's continued use of his racist comments to a singular use of a joke. If the "joke" has been uttered before, then I agree with you, quarterback.
Saying something once when it was clearly intended as a joke, while in poor taste, is a far cry from Zod's behavior.
That said, to the original poster:
When you get married, you take that person for better or worse. Failing to communicate, or worse yet, communicating in anger with your spouse over silly things like an arcade cabinet will lead to further problems. We all have our little things we like to complain about when amongst "the guys", but if they were really serious problems, you need to work them out with the wife.
"Putting your foot down" works when you believe your wife needs to go to the hospital for something that could be life-threatening. Doing so when saying "I'm gonna put my cab in here, and that's IT!" is a sure ticket to divorce for failing to work with your wife to come to an agreeable compromise.
You may not think so, but her going out and buying 500 pairs of shoes is a direct result of HER thinking to herself "well, if HE thinks HE'S gonna do "X", then I'll show HIM!", and you continue to go down that path until the judge makes you guys split your stuff down the middle and move into separate living quarters after the divorce. Realize your WANTS are things to talk about and come to an agreement on. A cab is a "want", regardless what you think now. When you're 60 and alone, you'll "want" your wife back, and you'll trade all your cabs for her.
