Megaman: Zero vector FINISHED
« on: January 22, 2006, 09:37:58 pm »
Well I had some spare time today, and a lot of boredom, so I decided to continue on with the artwork for my yet to be built cabinet.  I have no space to build or put a cabinet at the moment, but I can at least get the artwork ready!

So in addition to the Megaman vector I've already done, I'm moving on with Zero.  This graphic would most likely be the player 2 image on the CP, although my old-school love of Megaman is very tempted to go with an excellent Protoman image that I have.  We'll see what happens whenever I mock up a control panel (ie...months and months away, life is too busy, I work slowly!)

So here we go...my 2nd vector!  All thats left is to throw in some color and it will be finished :)

And for the curious, here is my source image.  Its somewhat crummy, but it had enough detail for me to accomplish what I needed.  Along with taken some liberties to correct for proportion, scale, etc.  I gotta make it look better then the source after all ;)

Okay...I'm probably going to be called away from the computer shortly, but I had to put some color down onto this vector.  While the black and white wireframe look is just plain cool, it was demanding color.

So here we go!

I actually need to add a few more highlights to the hair, but its 95% complete right now.  And it was damned fun to make all those long pointy curves :)

Well this thread didn't catch anyones attention...but either way, the vector is finished!

(Click on the photo for a higher quality version!)

I'm glad to have this one completed, because there was a bit of a close call with losing it earlier in the day (see earlier post).  The file was not opening correctly due to some errors in saving it, but I was thankfully able to figure out a fix for it.  So I'm quite happy to have it done.

And just for a quick overview....All flat color except for a few gradients.  The sword, the crystal on his head (actually 3 seperate, converging gradients), his eye, and then the red pommel portion of the sword.  Gradients just look much, much nicer, so I had to use them.

Also, 60 colors in total and 133 vector layers.  If I'm counting correctly :)

Well...I've got my player 1 and player 2 art done now...time to figure out what the next piece of artwork will be!

you know a secure way to back-up thoose  Megaman art, will be to up it on the library.
I can guarantee that it will be backuped on a lot of hard drives around the world, including mines  ;) ;)
I'm on the planning stage

Looks pretty good, but there is a pretty glaring discrepency between the source and the vecorization of the image. The visible shoulder joint is shaped quite differently. I'm not sure if you where going for accuracy but that is the only thing i see wrong with it, beyond that good job :)

Well I'll be....

You're quite right, the shoulder portion of my vector is square and boxy.  On the original image, the bottom left portion actually curves in, making it not so squarish.  After making the source image somewhat transparent for tracing (and with it being a semi-poor source to begin with) I completely missed that little detail.  I'll do another "corrected" version later and compare which one I like best.

While I generally go for acuracy, this vector is my least accurate.

The colors are not exactly the same as the source, the fingers are slightly different cause the original lines looked funky, and the highlight/sheen on the hair is not exactly the same.  I'm still not 100% thrilled with the sheen near the back of his head and will probably tweak that later.  It just didn't look right as a straight trace for some reason.

About the colors, I darkened the reds overall.  I had it with the brighter red at first, but it just didn't look quite right to me.  Oh, and the grays/whites are different too.  I did take some liberty with the coloring in order to get the desired effect I wanted.

Aside from that, its pretty much a straight duplicate of the original.  But yes, I do allow myself a tiny bit of artistic interpretation here and there.  My logic is that these are going to be on a future cabinet of mine, so I've got to make sure that I like them, even if that means a few changes here and there.

( But if I was doing these vectors to restore old original artwork, then I'd be going for 100% accuracy ;) )
