Fixing Corrupt Illustrator file?
« on: January 29, 2006, 03:27:24 pm »
Well I was working on my Zero vectorization for several hours yesterday, and I was just a few parts away from completing it.  Come this morning, I'm getting an error message.

"Can't open the illustration.   The illustration contains an illegal or misplaced operator.

Offending Operator: "U"

"

Now thankfully, my file will still open with 90% of the content there.  But one of my main vector layers is all gone.  I can retrace it and put the detail back, but I'd rather fix the problem if possible.  I can't find any specific info on the web for this particular error, so maybe someone here can give me some advice?

Oh, and I did backup the file, but its got the same corruption issue.  I'm 100% certain it was the backup process of saving it to a USB disk that ruined my vector.  Even the Adobe help forums were talking about how saving backups sometimes ruin vectors....how stupid is that?

Woo!

After reading about errors in Illustrator 10, I was able to use an older method to generate a text-file of the graphics.  Then I was able to make a damn lucky guess about what to remove in an encrypted text file, and its all fixed!

So I've got it working again!  Now I don't have to stress about having a broken file that I put many hours of work into!
