Daylight saving begins here in less than a week when we put our clocks forward one hour.

Currently, the boards don

I always think daylight saving is a dumb idea. You gain an hour of sunshine in the morning when most people are either working or travelling to work and thus don't care, and you lose an hour's light in the evening when most people have their leisure time and want the extra light.

Makes to sense to me.

Crazy thing is not all of Aus will be under daylight savings.  Stupid WA government yet again creating a wider time gap between us and the rest of the country.

umm what??
You start an extra hour earlier in the morning (ie reducing the morning sunlight) and finish an hour earlier in the afternoon meaning you have an extra hour of sunlight at night.  I wish we had it here.

They're changing the typical day/week they move the clocks here in the America's this year.  Or are they enacting that next year?  Well, I know they're gonna change the days.

Doh, I was looking at it from a UK perspective. I forgot that you guys have your summers and winters reversed. When we change our clocks very shortly (can't remember the exact date) we will get an extra hour's light in the morning.

Basically what I'm saying is that I think we should be permanently on the summer arrangement.

Blame Ben Franklin.  Wasn't it his idea?  Something to do with more hours of sunlight for people to work?  There was no leisure back then. :)
But wasn't it fun to think you won the lottery, just for a second there???

You guys live in strange lands.

In Aus the whole point of daylight saving is to gain daylight in the evenings. In summer the sun is up at 5:00 am and setting around 8:00pm.

It would probably make more sense to you if you had kids that walk to school in the morning. It's not a good thing for them to do in the dark.

Kinda sucks to have to drive to work with the headlights on, but I'd still rather have that extra daylight in the evening.
