so im probably getting a raise monday...

Ok, so 2 weeks ago when my boss had a spare minute i went in his office and asked him about a raise. and he said something like "ok, thats definately not an unreasonable request, let me get a chance to square away some things I will think about it and talk to you next week" something like that, so im like ok. And he is extremely busy between travelling constantly and teleconferences, etc. hes been traveling the past 2 weeks ive seen him maybe 2 days out of it. and hes finally back today and i asked him he said hes been so busy he hasnt even thought about it, we will definately talk monday morning about it.

So anyway, im sure i will get a raise my boss is cool like that and its been about a year since my last one, which was a dollar raise. things have been super busy and ive been kicking ass, got a 200$ bonus in my check 2 weeks ago for doin a good job. So anyway i know i will probably get at least 1$, im making 11.50 right now, do you think its unreasonable to ask for 1.50 so im making 13? I mean its a small buisness, im pretty indispensable here, im a jack of all trades doing accounting, programming with proprietary languages, customer relations, etc.

yeah but thats not for another 6months to a year, and the way things are going now it may take longer. theyre hitting all kinds of complications cause they want a pool and its not going to fit on their lot cause the contractor ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- something up, i dunno its this whole big thing

Ah.  Well, in that case, ask for what you think is reasonable.  If you have a good relationship, all he can say is no and give you what he feels like giving you.  The problem with asking for a raise is that you have no leverage.  Do you have an offer for more money elsewhere?  If not, there is no reason to give it to you unless he just feels like doing so.

The only leveraged way to ask for a raise is to do it with an offer letter for more money elsewhere in your hand.

yeah true, we have a pretty good relationship its pretty casual here so i think i will ask for the raise to 13. i know at the least im getting 12.50 so its not much more. i could really use the cash though
