Cool new scooter
« on: August 05, 2005, 01:39:09 pm »
http://www.retrothing.com/2005/08/surgical_steel_.html

I might just get one of these.  It's cheap and for a scooter, damn cool looking.  And at only 18 Mph it's pretty safe for a motorbike.  I live in a pretty small town and share a car with my wife.  This would erase most of the inconveniences that go along with that sharing.

The thing only weighs 70 lbs and folds up pretty small.  A helluva a lot better than a Segway, that's for sure.

edit:  Oh yeah....it's $1000

I just bought a full sized truck for $500. Okay it's a little heavier than that, and it doesn't fold up at all. Paige won't throw rocks at me when I drive it however. Well maybe he will, but it's already so beat up that I won't care.

But the truck takes gas which is expensive.  And it takes insurance, which is REALLY expensive.  The truck would certainly eliminate all the inconveniences that go along with sharing a vehicle with my spouse, but it would also eliminate all the benefits.

And I won't hold it against you for throwing rocks at me.  People who drive things like this deserve it.  Hopefully I will dodge most of them.

IMO, medical coverage for one of those should be about 5x the cost as for a car... if Stingray comes along and hits you in his truck, you're going to be FUBARed.

Plus, the stitches you'll get from being hit by golf ball sized rocks all the time.

Best of all, you won't look like a complete dork riding one. Hell, it might even get you a few dates.

I went to the company website looking for a picture of a person riding it.  They do not have one.  That would imply to me that they do not feel secure in their ability to get a cool looking person pictured riding one.

Thus, one would look like a dork.  One would not get dates, one would get rocks.

The way things are going, if you drive a pickup truck you won't be able to afford rocks.

A Trek 7200 will only run you about $400 though and you can cash in on that Lance Armstrong thing.

You'd get pulled over within 10 minutes riding that around where I live.
Make sure you local laws allow you to ride it on the side of the street or sidewalk. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if they don't.  :police:
You could also get a really nice mountain bike for less than a grand, and wouldn't look like a tool riding it.

Seriously, you're riding 5 miles on sidewalks, why do you need to dress up in $350 of bright yellow spandex?

I do a good bit of trail biking, but I use regular clothes, a regular helmet, and have an old mountain bike that was cheap in 1990.

I bet you had some serious aerodynamics problems.

I wouldn't get pulled over here.  I'd stick to the neighborhoods (at 18 mph I'd kinda have to).  Honestly, I doubt I'll get one, but I really would like to have one.

You're in Utah shmokes, and I think any motorized vehicle needs to be registered "technically".  I'm in Utah too and I have a little 49cc moped that I got a ticket on (it only goes about 20 mph too, 25 mph down hills :) ).  When I asked DMV about it they said any motorized vehicle needs to be registered (which is pretty stupid as most mountain bikes can go faster than my moped).  Just an FYI...

LMAO....does it?  Haven't seen that show in a while, I guess.  Which brings up two questions:

1- What's with the smiley from your original post, the one who looks like he's about to vomit or, possibly, burst out laughing.  (My clothes and portable/wireless keyboard also fold up, by the way)?  What is that smiley doing, BTW?

2- Why did you capitalize USE IT?

a 600W electric motor capable of propelling you or your loved ones to a peppy 18 mph (29 km/h).

With a range of up to 18 miles, the IKOO is the ideal vehicle for a commute to the train or across campus.

So this is the ideal vehicle to get to and from......other modes of transportation?

Dude, you'd be better off getting a skateboard, then Chad might not throw rocks at you!

My question is how long it takes to recharge.  If 18 miles is its max range, and it takes a friggen HOUR to get that far at TOP SPEED (I can just feel the wind blowing through my back hair now :-X ) why wouldn't you just get a bicycle and do the REALLY tree-hugging frog-licking dirt-eating thing and save the planet by not wasting the electricity to charge that thing?

Now how are you going to play Ms Pac Man at 60mph?  What is more important, gameplay or travel time?  If you have a good game then travel time doesn't even matter!
