I swear I know I've seen a topic like this here somewhere, but I couldn't find it during search.
At any rate, saw several of these cabinets last night at our local D&B's. As far as overall construction, for what little I know (I've built only one myself), I was NOT impressed. The monitor was so far back at an angle that you could practically see all the way inside the cabinet...making games like Donkey Kong murder to play, because you couldn't stand close enough to the cabinet to hold the tiny joystick AND take in the entire picture at the same time - or I sure couldn't.
One thing I wanted to add here though regarding copyright issues would be this. If that's how the original game ran, I really don't see why anyone who owns the original rights would be upset over a MAME (tm) version of their game. Whereas I can break 12 - 13,000 on DK here at home, I barely managed 500 points last night due to speed changes, etc.
My personal opinion on it is no matter how hard they try, PCs will never be able to emulate the real thing in full. Like I said, not in favor of taking money away from anybody...but again, after seeing those consoles last night I just don't see the need to make a fuss.
