Looks good! Are you going to make a prototype control panel too or are you leaving that till the end?

yeah i will make the CP after i get back from work today

oh i forgot to say i built this from project arcade book.

i follow the book but is there supposed to be the open gap in the back?

You have more patience then me! Nice job. I did my arcade from the book & it has the open gap in the back. Keep us posted.

really? then i don't think i like it i will put door there execpt for bottom part. with venting hole in the door of course. unless if you know it will cause some heat problem?

I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't seen the back of my cab since I finished it last Sept/Oct. I've seen others put 'doors' on the back of their cabs, some have used peg board to help keep circulation. Whatever you do, make sure there is a way for air to move out of your cab. The TV/monitor & computer generate heat that needs to be displaced over time.

Use pegboard for the top of your cab if you're going to use it. It's flimsy stuff, so using the smaller area at the top of the cab won't compromise the stiffness of your cab at all.

Not that a pegboard back would in any way be flimsy, I'm just saying that it'd be a better place to use it, and use a solid back to strengthen the whole shebang, while the holes in the pegboard would allow the heat to escape in the most logical place in the cab - where it will naturally rise to.

Alternately, you could use a solid piece of wood for the top, and tape a speaker grill pattern to the top and drill the holes individually. Of course, you'll need patience and you'll end up with one wrist that's twice the size of the other if you don't alternate hands

i haven't build the cardboard CP yet because i wasn't sure about the size width of my cabinet.

now i like the size of it but i wasn't sure if the real cabinet built with 3/4 wood would fit through my bedroom door frame with door removed.

so could anybody with LuSID cabinet built with 3/4" wood measure the total width from side to side and post back here?

BTW my door frame is just about 29 1/2 inch wide. am i stuck?

not that i am yelling but i wanted to start building mock up CP tomorrow or make changes to my cabinet if needed if my door frame is too short.

Having not even built that exact cab, I can say for certain that you yourself are capable of answering your own question.

Measure your cardboard mockup. If it is less, it will fit.

If you want to make DOUBLY sure, add 1¹/₂" to your measurement. If THAT measurement fits through your door, you can safely assume that your final cabinet constructed with actual wood or wood-like products will fit.

Didn't you build your cardboardcade to the actual dimensions of the plans?

yeah well but i only built it to see how it would look like in person but since its not 3/4 thick so i wasn't sure but thanks for the respond and i think it will fix through my door.

As long as you built it using the exact measurements of the plans, then measuring it will tell you if it fits through the door. Since there will only be 2 pieces that will affect the total width of your cab (the thickness of the material used for the 2 sides), then adding that inch and a half to your exact measurement of the back will tell you instantly whether or not it'll fit. Even better, if you fasten the two sides to the INSIDE, your final width will be the width of your back piece ONLY.

Either way, since you've got the plans, you don't have to wait on anyone to finally measure their cab for you

Now, grab your camera......

AND GET TO BUILDING!

I think the Lusid cab is 27.5" wide however you can make it anything you want as long as your monitor fits that is.
