My games are Black and White? Help
« on: June 27, 2005, 05:43:02 pm »
I am new to mame - go figure - I have loaded on my Pentium III with windows 2000 professional - Mame32.30 and it works fine.

The games work but they are all in BLack and White.
I ran a game audit - I think that is what it was called and it said
Unknown Dump -

When I go back to Mame32.30 they work fine and in color

The games appear to work properly but they are in Black and White - any suggestions, thoughts, or comments??
P.S.

I don't think you're going to get any response for your question until you remove how you obtained those roms.

It's cool.  :)

Well I don't have too much experience with MAME32 since I usually use standard MAME, but MAME32 is based on MAME.

If they work in an older version of MAME and not properly in a new one, that means you may have older versions of the ROMS. A particular version of MAME looks for a particular version of a ROM when it tries to execute. There may be several working versions out there, but they'll be working for specific MAME versions. This is not the case with all games, but certainly a significant amount.

You can either choose to use the older version of MAME (no harm there) or you can find a newer version of the ROM. If that doesn't fix it, then that obviously wasn't the problem. :-)

What specific games are you having trouble with? How many different games did you try?

I have the old version games -Roms- in one folder -
with Mama32.30

And I have the new vesion of the roms in another folder.  I have the updated Roms that are specific to that Mame32.61 version?

I may try to re install another version of Mame32.61 but I was hoping someone could tell me if there was another problem

you have not mention the games you are having problem with but keep in mind that if you did pick a game that is a BLACK AND WHITE game, it will be BLACK AND WHITE.

This answer is not as facetious as it sounds.  Some older games such as Star Castle, Battlezone, Space Invaders, Omega Race, etc. were only in color by virtue of an overlay on the screen.  These overlays are represented by MAME's artwork.  Is it possible that you have the artwork configured properly for MAME32 but not standard MAME?

These are all my games - not just certain ones - that would not be a concern

Every game that I go into is in black and white

So Street Fighter is in black and white? Is it possibly a configuration issue?

I have Mame32.61 - I am not sure if street fighter is on there but I have tried about 10 games - Each one of them is in black and white

When I switch back to Mame32.30 - the games all work fine and in color.

This is my first experience with Mame - I am wondering if I need to get rid of the older version or if that would have anything to do with it??

I have tried all of the obvious things - reboot - re install network card - put other versions of Mame in temp folders -

ANyone heard of this problem before??

I've never heard of the problem. Try a simpler version like just plain old MAME. That way, either it works or it doesn't. You know the problem isn't a configuration issue.

Isn't mame for DOS - I am not that computer literate - I downloaded Mame the first time  when I extracted it - the screen would go to a quick DOS screen and then go right back to windows.

you can't double click on the mame.exe file... you have to run it from the command line or through a Frontend.
