not to bad really.
I can not stay long on the PC yet. ( that was when I smoked the most)

2 reasons for quiting
1) Stupid State government just added a $3.00 more TAX to a carton here.

Hey, that's great!  Along with the money, your senses will recover.  Food will taste better, and your sense of smell will improve.

To help, you may want to eliminate things that make you think of smoking (other than the computer, that is).

Congratulations again.  If you need any moral support, let me know.  Get a support network going!

BEST reason for quitting:
I want to live longer.

Made a decision (congratulations!), don't use (smoke) no matter what.

Count me in as supportive, I can't remember the last one I had!  ;D

Imagine the cigarette tax not making a negative impact in your life because you don't smoke!  :o

You live in KY too?  PM me for my phone number for support if you like,
be glad to help!

Keep up the good work, the best is yet to come!

Congrats!  Hang in there!  Its rough.  I quit on March 19th.  Throw away your ash trays and your lighters.  I don't know about you, but I still had a full pack when I quit.  The best thing my wife did to help was to take that pack and throw it away.  I would have started back up if she hadn't.

In the 4 years that I was smoking, I never got into buying by the carton.  So everytime I went to the gas station to get my two packs of smokes, I would get a soda or two, or coffee, some beef jerky and a candy bar.  Now that I don't stop, I save anywhere from 10 to 15 dollars a day.

Hang in there

Find yourself some flavored toothpicks (brother-in-law had cinnamon), pick up some sunflower seeds, find yourself some gum...something to keep your mouth busy.

The sunflower seeds worked BEST for one b-i-l (he dipped only, no smoking) but the other b-i-l had to go the whole nine yards and had ALL the stuff I mentioned above because he was in the same situation as you were.

Neither smokes OR dips anymore, but all three of us seem to be supporting the sunflower seed industry ;D  Go to Sam's Club and pick up the big bucket of seeds (they're really just a bunch of packets)....it takes each of us about a week and a half to go through a bucket, but it's still way cheaper than smoking.

I stopped smoking YEARS ago, and am one of those folks that quitting cold turkey wasn't as hard as all get out, but I gotta have one of those fixes above, and I DO have an urge every now and then.

Good choice and stick with it.  You kon doo eet!

The gum thing never really worked for me in the past............

The flavored toothpick idea might just work........

I may have to get some (hhmmmmmmmm wonders if they have nicotine flavored)  ;D

best of luck, I have now been smoke free for a 3 months.
The first couple of weeks where pretty bad, but now I can be in the same room as a smoker and it does not bother me. (for a while the cravings where pretty awful).
The hardest part for me has been  that smoking gave me an excuse to get up and go outside for a while. Now I have to remind myself to get up and do something  (or I will work pretty much the whole day with out getting up from my desk).

Good luck and belive it or not things get easier...

Hey Dawayne, good choice on giving up the smokes. I'm into my 7th week now smoke free. I quit cold turkey. Gotta say that the first week (they call it hell) week was pretty bad, the next week is called heck week and I made it through that much easier. I got a Quit meter at www.silkquit.org which sits on my desktop and tells me stats about my quit like this...

One month, two weeks, four days, 1 hour, 20 minutes and 15 seconds. 720 cigarettes not smoked, saving $259.50. Life saved: 2 days, 12 hours, 0 minutes.

Its a good reminder of how you are progressing in the Quit. Now I can finally buy those extra trackballs I've been looking for....

I think education is the key in this thing, so I spend a lot of time reading over at http://whyquit.com/FreedomIndex.html

A good support network is a a good thing. A good one is http://forums.about.com/ab-quitsmoking.

Finally, whenever I feel the urge, I read Bryan's story, which firmly reaffirms my quit in my head...
http://whyquit.com/whyquit/BryanLeeCurtis.html

If you need any support, count me in too. Send me an e-mail and I'll try to help you best I can...

I quit smoking and dipping almost a year and a half ago.  I quit for the same reason, to save money.  It gets better after the first couple of weeks.  You probably won't save any money for a while, I spent a lot on sunflower seeds and gum for the first couple of months.

Quitting is 100% mental.  If you are really ready to stop, you will be able to do it.  I tried to quit many times before, even made it about 6 months a couple times before I started again.  This time was different, I was done, and I haven't looked back.

Good Luck!!!
Paul

daywane,

I know what you're staying about your lungs hurting once you quit.

I was stupid enough to have a pack & a half habit while having ASTHMA!!
For weeks afterwards it seemed my lungs were worse off after I quit.  I couldn't figure it out.   I guess once you quit your body actually starts repairing itself, and that means getting rid of all the crap you put into it, which is not a fun process.

One great thing to try doing is go for a run.  Go run 1/2 mile or so (if you can, god knows if you were smoking that much it might not be easy).  For MONTHS afterwards after running you'll taste tar in the back of your throat, it's really weird.

But you WILL begin seeing benefits.  Food tastes better, the air smells cleaner, you'll sleep better, the birds will start singing.. (Ok maybe i got carried away with the birds).

It's so worth it. I've got a lot of respect for anyone trying, so keep it up!

Yeah, definitely a good idea to quit smoking and I totally agree with NipsMG.  Your body is cleaning out the crap and that is not pleasant.  Most people never feel that for long enough to get over the hump.  They just restart the old habits and never really know what it feels like at the top.

My advice is to eat cleansing foods like fresh garlic and ginger, cayenne and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.  Find your local juice bar.  Eat alfalfa sprouts.  Make yourself some fresh salsa this summer.  Make sure you evacuate regularly and drink plenty of water.

Try not to let other addictions take the place of the old one.  I've switched back and forth from caffeine addiction to snack food/cookie addiction many times.  I've switched over to a healthy workout regime to keep myself busy in the afternoons.

Anyway, awesome decision, I was so disappointed when I was an exchange student in Denmark and travelled around a bit to find that smoking is still a very social activity there.  I was in Germany with my fiancee and her family last Xmas and they still have the Marlboro Man.  My fiancee's parents and her sister smoke.  What a shame.  At least their cars get 2-3 times better mileage than your average car around here.

Cheers,
KenToad

I am waiting for food to tast better. To soon yet, but i do find it strange how hungry I am all the time.
I refuse to eat.

the patch does make for strange dreams. ( not kidding) ( stated so on the cd that came with the patches)

NO WAY will I jog or run yet. I used to run 20 miles a day as a teen I am 40 now
might pick it up latter. I think I will hike in the woods. I have 280 acres to hike in.
I allways said 300 but come to find it to be 280.

You sir, are a raving lunatic, and should be kept on an island with more of your kind so as not to taint the general population!  I'm going to have to find a reason to respect you so I can lose it for those comments made! ;)

Danny, stop making nice with the hostel broad and make a side trip with a dense piece of wood made specifically for "sense-knocking".  Apply it liberally to Mr Bones.  He's gone daft again. ;D

Congrats man! Regarding the flavored toothpicks, if you can't find 'em, make 'em!  A bottle of mint flavoring (or your choice) and a box of toothpicks.   Pour the flavoring in to a bowl and dump in the toothpicks.  I'd let them set several hours and get good and soaked...then pull them out, place on wax paper and let the excess dry / drip off.  They usually do nicely!

still going. ( not smoking that is)
last night was a rough one. My roll form machine is supposed to take a 9.90mm tube to 10.5 mm tube. ( will not really) 9.97 to 10.5mm

clamp blocks are made to large. QC did not like how the parts were getting scuffed from the bumps ( tube slips a little in the 2 bumps it gets just before rollformed) (been having this problem for 4 months now on all 3 shifts)
I am new to this machine. They thought I should fix it all of the sudden  :o

I have really had no training on this machine. I am also the least qualified to run or fix anything but they dumped this bag of worm in my lap last night.

pissed me off to the max. I did not smoke. "0" production 200 scrap.
let them put that in there pipe and smoke it  >:(

If anyone wants to quit with the patch like I am. Do not put it on your back. HURTS!!! Chest HURTS also. I also take it off before sleep now. started this today. It WILL mess with your dreams. really it will.
I dreamed I was a flea on a dog. A small child raised by elephants????
never had dreams like this before. Not night mares, funny ones really or just plain stupid ones.

Danny, if you toss the filter before chewing 'em they're not so bad, I've heard.

The filter is like chewing a big piece of transfat, or drinking cow pus ;)

Oh C'MON!  That's one of life's little joys.  It's even got a catchy tune!

Oh, oh, oh,
Ice cold milk and an Oreo cookie,
They forever go together, what a classic combination,
When a dark, delicious cookie meets an icy cold sensation

Like the one and only creamy, crunchy chocolate O

well...  :-[ I fell off the wagon this weekend.
I am back on the patches again ... second round. went to the cabbin and had a weekend from hell. ( wished I had worked instead.) I am sure we all have had weekends like that. wife stormed off and bought a few packs.
we all were mad at each other ( 7 of us in all)
back on my feet again and still determined to QUIT! I guess I am back a square one again.

I disagree with everyone that says food taste better.  :P
I can not stand my favorite pop anymore. Mountain Dew. Lost all the flavor, All I taste is the carbonated water. Tea taste a bit bitter. I also found out OUR PLANET STINKS!!! I mean yuck . I live around dairy farms. Not the factory farms you guys have been talking about. ( never seen one) Mom and Pop type farms
but still ....POOP is POOP  :P
sorry for letting you guys down.  :-[

You could try the nicotine inhaler -- Nicotrol I think it's called.

At least that way, you're getting the same kind of nicotine delivery that cigarettes give.

Good luck:

Make sure you evacuate regularly and drink plenty of water.

 :-X

Oh wait, he said evacuate.

That's the first good use of that emoticon I've seen.  I always thought it looked like an a**hole, as visualized by Vonnegut in Breakfast of Champions.

Potty.

Cheers,

Paul Newman was a drunken fool who got thrown out of many colleges, including the one here in my little town.  I think he deserves your business, Drew.

Hint O' Mint.

He makes a decent Caesar dressing, other than that, his overpriced (for the enjoyment I derive from them) products can all rot on a shelf.  Gimme processed, packaged, and portioned products any ol' day!

I'm off to enjoy a lard sammitch now :-X

Oh, and hey, nobody buy Heinz Premium Sweet Relish in a squeeze bottle.  It sucks, I sent 'em a letter, they mailed me coupons and a canned response letter telling me they're sorry to hear about my problems, and will pass along my concerns about the product to quality control.  Friggen jags didn't even read my letter that the problem isn't with the product, it's with the packaging that squeezes out all the juice, leaving your relish inside the bottle. >:(
