This is my juke project I have been working on. I have posted about it a few other places so I decided to put some pics up of my progress. It is made of 3/4" oak wood. I am going to stain the whole thing when I get finished sanding it. The juke design comes from June's plans. I have made some small changes though. I did away with the lip along the sides on the

Looks great. I am very interested to see how you do the rotating CDs. THAT'S A NICE TOUCH. Also, where did you get the JUKEBOX KEY control panel thingy?

Looks really nice, I would have matched the grain up more (cut each section from one sheet of wood), if you are going to finish it in a light color it will stand out.

Yeah I would have gone with a vertical grain on the kick panel but all in all thats one sweet jukebox.

I would have prefered to cut it so the grain was vertical, however i couldn't since it took almost all both the 4 x 8 sheets to make it (cut it to maximize the amount I could get out of each sheet). At $40 a sheet, I was not going to buy another one just for the front panel. Here is a pic of how the cd's are rigged up. I took a motor out of a rotating light I bought at walmart and put a metal slide in it with a piece of a dowel stick in the slide I have a hole drilled through the board where each cd goes for the dowel to fit through. This is not one of the cd's I will be using.

It's not a horrible way to spend some time... I was expecting worse, It's really not even the same kind of movie as Starship Troopers... it's more horror/suspense like Alien rather than action/political commentary like Starship Troopers was. It looks really sucky at first, but it does draw you in a bit.

Maybe I'll give it a try then, I loved the first.

By the way, great jukebox design, the control scheme you've come up with looks awesome.

i'm upset to see that you spent so much time and money to get everythign right and then mes up the wood grain, but everything else looks great.

Why is it that so many people here have a problem with wood grain. I'm sorry but not everyone likes everything painted black with pacman art etc all over the sides.

It kills me how people make over black cabs even when the wood work is not so great but build a great looking wood grain cab and people hate it. Its in your house not in a bar or arcade!!!

He doesn't have a problem with wood... he's commenting about the grain running one way on the lower panel and a different way everywhere else.

it does not really matter to me about the wood grain. And just for the record not all furniture has grain going a certain direction. My girlfriends armoir (granted its an antique and was not home made) has vertical grain everywhere except for one part on just one of the two doors. I don't think someone is going to look at my juke and be like oh cool a juke I want to check out the music...oh wait nevermind the grain is horizontal on the bottom. If I stain it and for some wierd reason absolutely hate the horizontal grain, I could just cut a whole for the sub in the middle and cover the whole piece of wood with speaker mesh, that way the grain would not be visible. But like I said it doesn't really bother me.

Everything is finally done except for covering the metal brackets that are visible behind the rotating cd's. I don't know what I am going to use to cover them, I was thinking about putting some of those stickers that are used on entertainment centers and stuff to cover screw holes, but I can't find any place that sells them.

This looks great Rob, the grain is definitely NOT an issue.

Did you consider tmoulding on any of the edges?

Anyway - how does it sound?

Maybe you should consider lining the space where the rotating discs are with some mirrors. Just a thought...

And if it's possible, you might consider taking 2 CDRs and super-gluing the label sides together, so that you have a disc where both sides are reflective. That might make it look a bit more fancy.

I thought of both of those ideas earlier. I didn't put the mirrors in since you would then be able to see the light from behind the marquee in the mirrors, and if I blocked it, then the cd area would not have enough light. On the cd's I decided to put 2 real cd's in there since I thought it would look better.

I didn't want to put t molding on it, wanted to make it stictly out of oak as much as possible and I wasn't sure if I would mess it up cutting it for the tmolding if I did go that route. Sounds great by the way.

My first thought when I saw the final pic was, "I wish the CDs were shiny instead of labeled." FWIW.

I really like the jukebox, though. I am hoping to build one this summer.

Actually the program is virtual music jukebox, but I highly recommend you DO NOT get this program. Not only is it somthing like $30, but there are problems with it and the owners do not provide any help what so ever. I have emailed them 5 times about one issue and still never recieved a response.

Rob you should switch over to SKJukebox, I just wish I had found it BEFORE I paid for VMJ, it is very similar to VMJ, only better customisation, works better and brilliant support. Did I mention it's also free.

I'll second that. I sent a PM to Salmon King with a bug and a couple of feature requests. Took him all of two days to fix the bug, implement the new features and get a new build up on the site. Show me a commercial product with support like that. SK jukebox is so good that I'm redesigning my cab to accomodate it. Luckily I have plenty of room for a keypad on my admin panel!

I've looked at the VMJ skins... it should be trivial the way they're set up to write a .skn file that will use a VMJ skin. I just don't know if that would be a "good thing" to do or not. As it is I feel a bit guilty about having an Arcade Jukebox-compatible skin, although the author hasn't complained (he probably doesn't know)... since VMJ is a commercial project, supporting his skins may make it look like I'm trying to poach his users, which would not be true.
