Jon Pertwee kicked --I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules--. Definitely the best doctor IMHO although Tom Baker was pretty good as well.

What I particularly liked about Jon Pertwee was that no matter how unrealistic the monsters were, or how preposterous the plot was, he always played the role with utter conviction!

We can get them here, but only from special shops that import them.

We CAN blame Dubya for almost anything we feel like, but I don't think he's guilty this time.

I'm okay with blaming him anyway.

just seen a trailer for the new show - looks like the special effects are going to be much better :)

But is K-9 going to be in the new show?

it could be sponsored by Sony Aibo

I finally got to see the first episode of the new series.  I liked it!!!!

When did the TARDIS control room get so big?  Was it like that in the 1996 movie? I don't remember.

I also managed to see the very first Dr Who episode ever aired.  It was interesting, but I think he has to be my least favorite docotor so far.  I haven't seen any of the sixth or seventh Doctor's episoide yet.

There is a site out there that lists all the episodes and what condition the archives are in.  Oddly enough it is the second doctor that has the fewest intact episodes.

I especially liked that I could see them without commercials.

When I firstr started watching Doctor Who, the local PBS station only had Tom Baker episodes.  At the end of Tom Baker's run, they aquired and started showing the John Pertwee episodes.  Then wthey went through all the Tom Baker episodes again.  I think the repeated John Pertwee and Tom baker a few times until they were able to get the Peter Davison episodes.  By the time they were showing Colin baker episodes, I was too busy with real life, and I only saw one or two Colin Baker episodes.  I don't think they ever showed the Sylvester McCoy episodes.  Somewhere along the line I think they showed a couple of William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton episodes.  Other than that the only time I had seen the first two doctors was in the "Five Doctors" andf the "Three Doctors" episodes.

I did see the movie in 1996 and thought it was OK, but I remember thinking that they had made some bad decisions with the storyline.

I also saw the first of the Peter Cushing movies, and thinking it ws really disappointing.  Especially the inside of the Tardis. Yech!!!a

Sounds like my experience as well.  I started watching them in the 80s on PBS when I was a teen.  The effects were campy even at the time but that was part of the charm.   I too got started with Tom Baker, then was introduced to Pertwee and eventually Peter Davison and I don't think I ever saw any of the Colin Baker episodes.

rchadd,

There are more than one movie!

In 1965 we got Dr. Who and the Daleks

In 1966 it was Dalek's Invasion Earth: 2150 AD.

1996 brought us the american made for TV movie Doctor Who: Enemy Within

The first two starred Peter Cushing as the Doctor.  I was able to borrow the first one from the library.  The production values weren't much different than the TV show and the TARDIS interior set was a joke.  The doctor in these two movies is a human inventor and not a Timelord.  The script of the first movie is very similar to one of the early Dalek episodes.

The TV movie tried to fit in with the rest of the TV series, but they made some changes that I don't understand.  The Doctor is half human? Why would it take a human to open the Eye Of Harmony?    The production and secial effects were very good, but the plot gets a little bizarre at the end.

Well I feared the worst after all the hype. But I saw the first episode on Saturday and was surprised how good it was. They actually appear to have spent some money on it.

The writing wasn't up to the standards of the best Jon Pertwee/Tom Baker era stories but it's easily the best Dr Who episode I've seen since Tom Baker left.

Apparently the new series gets better as it goes along so I'll definitely keep watching.

I was never a fan of Dr. Who in my childhood but it was alright TV (not like some of the crap we get in the UK.) Im glad they used some grate special effects. Unlike the old episodes where people were attacked by egg boxs on wheels or killer dolls!

I'm in the process of "acquiring" the second episode now. It may take a couple days.

I have picked up a few of the older episode on DVD, and downloaded a few others off the internet to watch. Two of the files were not actually Dr. Who episodes which was aggravating after waiting a few days to download them.

To be honest I was a little disappointed with the second episode. The story was a bit thin and things like how the Doctor knew who the culprit was were not properly explained.

In particular, the bit when the Doctor plugged what seemed to be a new battery into Rose's phone so she could speak to her mother in the past was totally absurd! I know this is only a kids show but come on!

I think the main problem is the writers have decided to fit a complete story into each 45 minute episode which doesn't give enough time to develop a substantial plot. They got away with it in episode one because everything happened so quickly.

Another thing I miss from the old series is the cliffhanger at the end of each episode.

Anyway I'll keep watching if only to see the flying Daleks!

I just saw the first episode on TV. I didn't like it. It had too much of a "Nickalodeon" kids show feel to it.

It is a kid's show!  Always has been intended as a kids show, except possibly the 1996 Fox TV movie.

I watched the pilot for the "K9 and Company" spinoff series.

It was a decent sory, but it seemed to be lacking something without the Doctor.  The theme song was really irritating.

Well now I have seen the first four episodes of the new Dr. who.

I am impressed.  The first three stories seemed a little short because they were a single episode in 45 minutes, so there were no cliffhangers.

The fourth episoide however did end on a cliff hanger, and I guess it will be a two parter.

Anyone here got any thoughts on the new Dr Who?

Not a bad choice IMHO. I think he's perhaps a bit young for the role but I thought he was very good in Casanova.

I'm in the US, and I have seen him act, so I really couldn't say for sure.

There is a brief clip from Cassanova in one of "A New Dimension" special that aired just before the first new episode.   Russle T Davies was part of that show as well as the new Dr. Who.
