suppose not many of you US guys know about this cult sci-fi series from UK

They are remaking the classic series from my childhood

can't wait to see it!

Didn't they try remaking it about 5 years ago too? As I recall, it turned out to be a big load of crap. Or was I dreaming? If it was a dream, that's pretty sad.

Co-incidentally, yesterday I was reading about the Billie Piper/Chris Evans split in one of my wife's import magazines. I don't get to hear all this important tabloid news anymore. It breaks my heart.

Use to catch here in the states all the time (years ago),,,think it was broadcast by PBS.

Loved it,,,,,,been terrified of giant talking plants ever since.

You mean the original series? It doesn't hold up to todays TV standards by a long shot (production wise). I used to watch it every week growing up, but if you compare the old series to modern SciFi stuff like Battlestar Galactica, it's laughable. The storylines might be noteworthy, but the cheap sets and theatre style acting would be an instant turn off. Like how some old arcade games were totally adictive, but most people can't stand playing Space Invaders for more than 1 minute today (even me).

Mental Note: Add Dr.Who themetune to my cab. "durnernerert-ooo-oooo-wooooo! wooooo-woooo! eee-woo-woo00--wooo-woo-wooo!"

I just read on another forum that several networks are in a bidding war for the US rights. If true that would seem to be good news for those of us here in the US who are waiting to see it.

Is that your Doctor Who pin? My best friend has one, his is one of the first 100 made, so it has the moving Dalek head. It is my absolute favorite pin, he needs to give it to me, I am the one who fixed the sucker when he bought it dead anyway.

I think it's about as much of a cult here as there. All my friends watched it. But then again we all played D&D so maybe my sample is biased.

True, as I understand it airs in April. Doesn't do any good for those of us who are too far south to pick up CBC, unless it's on DirecTV and I don't know it.

Yup, that's a shot of my current game room. I always wanted a pin, and found that one at a local distributor in unshopped condition. I was a Dr. Who fan way before that, so it was like 'fate'.

I've got the "wobble head" motor add-on (not factory original), but it works just the same.

Can't wait for the new show here in the US, if it ever shows up.

Dr. Who is a show that I remember being about 13-14 and PBS was hyping up this "longest running sci-fi show!" marathon they were going to play. I was all eager, then finally, I watched my first episode...

.. OH THE HORROR!

I thought it was crap. Looked like it was video taped with the same equipment porn movies use. The monsters looked cheap. The "Dr" looked like some fuddy-duddy doof. And the Daleks... !? I had to wonder why they didn't just run up to those things and tip them over! And how did they get up stairs anyway?!?

i remember dr who from john pertwee on and lost interest after tom baker. they are repeating the whole lot right now and ive watched it from ther very first episode. and while i didnt particularly like the first two drs, the two i just mentioned were brilliant. not to mention pertwees nemisis the master (see avatar

).

i love it so much that even though im moving interstate soon and will be living in a backpackers for a while (yes, ill try and beat off those danish backpackers and keep myself pure) ive just bought a cheap little portable tv just so i dont miss any episodes

it was the low production qualities that made it cult TV

Dr Who is always going to be played as a british eccentric - thats the characters appeal

They're similar to a Gummy Bear, but the jelly is softer and they're coated in this amazing thin powdered suger kinda crust thing. Biting the head off a Jelly Baby is much more satisfying than dis-membering a Gummy Bear.

I'm not sure if I've seen them in the US, but I'd imagine they're in Australia.

Billie Piper gives hope to all ugly gingers everywhere - but then again Chris Evans is loaded!

Not so sure about her acting ability - but from yahoo image search she certainly does look good

I just watched the first episode last night. Boy, am I getting old! You can tell they're really going for the younger crowd with the fast pace and attractive cast. I hope the show makes it, but I'm one of the less picky viewers - almost any Dr. Who is good Dr. Who.

Slightly OT - am I the only nerd here who has Dr. Who trading cards? If anyone else has them, I'd be up for trading extras. If anyone wants a complete set of Cornerstone series one cards, I could send one out to you for say $10 shipped - I must have 8 or 9 extra sets.
