Problem with DMAME and Arcadeos
« on: March 06, 2005, 05:19:28 am »
I have set up a box with dmame and Arcadeos.
Arcadeos loads fine. Dos MAME runs games fine from the command line.

The problem is, when I run games from Arcadeos, the game loads fine but when I press ESC to exit the game back to Arcadeos, it comes up with this error which fills the screen and I have to reboot.

Code: [Select]
Bad command or file name
Bad command or file name
Bad command or file name
Bad command or file name
Bad command or file name
Bad command or file name

etc etc.................

It seems that it is trying to maybe load a program while exiting MAME.

Has anyone got any ideas about this? Anything I could try and change or look at?

Thanks for any help.
I love the life I lead. I wish I could afford it.

First place I'd be looking are all and any .bat files on the system.  Starting with the autoexec.bat and working from there.

It does it forever, or did you not wait, tried to either ctrl-c and it didn't work, so you hit reset?

It did it forever, and didn't see the HDD light ticking so I rebooted.
CTRL+C or +X or +Q didn't do anything. I haven't seen it happen before.

It appears it's trying to load something when Mame stops.  You did say  you can launch a game right from AOS, right?

I can run a game from it but when it exits, it comes up with that error.

Here is the latest.

Installed the earlier version of mame (0.68), disabled the autoexec.bat and config.sys so nothing was running except DOS. Installed an earlier version of arcadeos (2.47), was running 2.52. Loaded arcadeos, ran a game, exited, did the same thing. Bad command or file name.  Could this have something to do with my hardware? What is it looking for?

The only thing I can think of is you're doing something in your setup that isn't liked (obviously) but why it would cause it to loop, that I'm not sure of.

So, just to make sure:

1) Your autoexec.bat and config.sys has *only* the bare minimum needed for starting properly (himem.sys, sound drivers and sound declaration, etc)

2) The PATH variable is set correctly in your autoexec.bat

          PATH .;c:\dos;

be sure that period is there, it states current path as the first place to look.

3) at the end of autoexec.bat, it changes to the AOD dir

          cd \arcadeos

then launches in the next statement

          arcadeos

Problem solved.

I remembered never having this problem in the past. This time I had all my ArcadeOS files in the root of c:\, so I moved them into a seperate folder c:\aos and it works fine from there.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments.

Now for some gaming.......  :D :D :D :D
