What's the wire for around the front of the screen?
« on: February 13, 2005, 02:06:17 pm »
I recently purchased a 21" CRT monitor on eBay for a good price, and I'm hoping to eventually use it for a cabinet I'm soon to build. It is an Eizo 21" - model Fexscan F77. I thought I might use it without the cover, so I removed the cover to see what it looked like "naked". I notice there is a wire that is attached to the inside of the front cover that connects to a two PCB type strips at the top and bottom of the screen. The wire does not terminate on anything. Maybe these pictures will make things clearer:

Does anyone know what these are for (degaussing?), and if removing them (by not using the front of the case) is likely to cause problems.

I hope this question isn't too stupid - my knowledge of monitors is extremely limited!

Cheers,

Richard

Closer pics would help.

And are there any componets on the other sides of the boards?

I'll try to take some closer pics in soon, but there's not a lot to see. Nothing is connected to the other side of the PCB - it is completly blank.

Cheers,

Richard

Def. not degauss.  Is there anything on the PCB?  LEDs, perhaps a microphone?

Maybe something to discharge the static from the screen on power on????

(Can't see why they would waste that much fiberglass for a led or mic board..)

There's absolutely nothing connected to the PCB - weird isn't it?

mmmPeanutButter  - excellent! Thanks very much for digging that post out. It looks very similar to what I have, so I'm sure it must be the same thing.

Cheers,

Richard
