I recently purchased a 21" CRT monitor on eBay for a good price, and I'm hoping to eventually use it for a cabinet I'm soon to build. It is an Eizo 21" - model Fexscan F77. I thought I might use it without the cover, so I removed the cover to see what it looked like "naked". I notice there is a wire that is attached to the inside of the front cover that connects to a two PCB type strips at the top and bottom of the screen. The wire does not terminate on anything. Maybe these pictures will make things clearer:

Does anyone know what these are for (degaussing?), and if removing them (by not using the front of the case) is likely to cause problems.
I hope this question isn't too stupid - my knowledge of monitors is extremely limited!
Cheers,
Richard
