Ultimate List of Fighting moves and codes
« on: January 11, 2005, 04:16:31 pm »
Are there any such compilations that contain fight moves and game codes for many of the popular arcade games?

seen anything in book form?  I'd like to have some kind of handy reference dangling from a chain on my cabinet.

Maybe I'll hang my wireless laptop on the chain instead with the active desktop set to gamefaqs.com

Why would you want that? They use the same motions for almost every single fighter anyway.

When I play a fighter I have never played, I just go thru the obvious motions.

I've never heard of the game, so I thought it was a general guide for all fighter games.

Isn't there a dat file project that attempts to document what you guys are looking for?

Google on "command.dat", pretty sure thats it.

Just like you guys, I -hate- reading the plain text guides over at GameFAQs; sure they are helpful, but also extremely hard on the eyes.  So, like you,  I've been searching for quite a while for a nice printable strategy guide for Marvel vs Capcom, Guilty Gear XX#R, SF3: 3rd Strike, and others.  They don't seem to exist.

So... I might try to make my own.  Unfortunately I'm not very talented at all when it comes to graphic design... (I'm a computer programmer, so obviously I'm more technical than creative, heh.).

Regardless, I might still try to create a guide for one of the games and see how it comes out.  Would anybody else be interested in partnering up to make a couple of good guides?

By the way, the command.dat thing looks pretty neat, but it's only for Mame32 Plus and Mame32FX :(

Upon further inspection, here is something I found from the guy who runs the command.dat project:

http://home.comcast.net/~plotor/books.html

Apparantly he sells custom-made books for $15 each that contain moves for Capcom games and Neo-Geo games (Capcom book is $15 and Neo-Geo book is $15).  I'm going to send him an e-mail and ask if he has a sample page from the book...  If he sends me one and if anybody else is interested I'll be more than happy to share it.

Hello all.  Sofa king, got your email, very sorry I have not responded to you yet, I've just been incredibly busy, yadda yadda.  I will email you tonight in case you don't see this first, but since it's for the benefit of all those interested, I figured I might as well respond publicly.

Thanks for the interest in the books.  I have not worked on them for some time, although I recently spent a few months revamping them and updating them.  So I consider them almost ready for public consumption, but not quite ready for prime time.  However, I will do better than send sofaking example pages, I will try to rehaul that lame web page of mine and include pictures on there.

To describe the books better, there are (currently) two volumes, although I am considering doing a third for fighting games that don't fit in the first two catagories.  Book 1 covers every fighter made by or related to Capcom with the exception of Capcom Fighting Evolution.  Book 2 is about all fighters ever designed to play on the original Neo-Geo hardware, which is up to and includes SNK vs Capcom Chaos.  Book 3, if I make it, will cover anything left out, possibly including Pocket Neo-Geo games as well,

Anyway, I'll post an update here to let you know if I ever get the example pages up.  I haven't sold any of these in a long time, but I think they're worth the investment, I've been working on them for over 7 years now, writing them and rewriting them over and over until I was happy with the format.  It's amazing what you can teach yourself to do with M$ Word...

I can follow the templete if I get one page that is in Photoshop Format.  Then I can just copy it.  Not a problem.  I would like to get all of the pages in Photoshop format so I could add art to the pages.  Great work by the way that looks great.

I thought Joe had a Kick finisher to his rapid punch as well as the Punch one? Maybe that only in 01......

@ wells83: I don't have a template in Photoshop Format since the entire project was done in M$ Word, and is particular to the page formatting options they have.  But the long and short of it is I'm very protective of this work, and would rather not know if you can immitate the look or not.  By all means, if you'd like to try to make it yourself, go for it, but this is a very important personal project to me, so I prefer to work on it individually.  I do welcome feedback on the books though, in order to make it more intuitive to read.

The command.dat however is open to ANYONE who would like to contribute to it, so I'll take this opportunity to solicate any help you would be willing to offer.

@ Tritoch84: No, I've never known Joe to have a kick finisher to his rapid punch, at least not in kof2k or kof2k1.  However, pressing A has a different result from pressing C in most KOFs.

I can understand that ITS your project.  I just wanted to help out and do some games that maybe you havent done.  Are you going to share all the work you have done?  By all means I do not want to "STEAL IT"  I just wanted to help out.  Keep up the good work.

I don't see why this is a big deal, or why people would pay money for it, in 30 mintues I could have all the moves for every fighting game, and then a few mintues here and there to get it all together.

Maybe I just don't get it....

I mean, fighters are my thing, but I don't see the point of spending money on something one could make themselves in little time. I can understand if they don't want to take the time and just want to buy it, but eh, if I wanted to buy things instead of making them, I wouldn't be posting here!  ;D

(don't kill me, just my thoughts.)

Bah, this thread has motivated me. I figure I might as well help out the people that don't play fighting games when they come to my house.

I'll be working on a nice project that contains moves for all fighting games up until now, including even the worst such as "Gowcazier voltage fighters"......*shivers*.

It might take a while, but I'm not to shabby when it comes to layouts and such.

So, look for it in a couple of weeks or months, depending on the time I want to devote to it.

Hell, lets ALL make books and share them.

I have a feeling it's just going to take a little time, and not so much skill, as every fighter has about the same movelist except for a few changes.

I thought this was stupid at first, but I was thinking about it for me, but then I thought it might be a good idea for those who like fighters, but don't know much about them.

Yes, anyone out there can pool all the information there is on fighting games out there and make a book on it.

I just want to throw in the fact that while, yes, anyone could gather all the info in one place, many people just don't want to.

For me to get all the info, then arrange it, even simply, into a decent layout, and then print everything out and bind it in some fashion.... just isn't worth it to me.  I personally would much rather spend the 10 or 15 bux and have it done for me in things such as this.  If there were a one stop "click this to print out a moves book" site, then maybe that woudl be different, but I wouldn't chastise Procyon for what he's doing.

I didn't chastise, and if you read my post, I said if you didn't want to take the time to do it, I could see how those guides would save you time, I also mentioned that since I had that "DIY" kind of personlity, (thats how I found this place to begin with) I would rather find all the information myself, as it's not that hard.

I do like the layout of his guides, and if you don't want to take the time to find the info you need and print it out, then buy his! Me personaly would rather make a full guide myself, but I know everyone is not like that.
