Removing "Bezel" from playing field?
« on: December 17, 2004, 08:45:52 am »
When I run some games the "Bezel" for that game appears on the playing screen, which reduces the playing field.

How do I get rid of the "bezel" so I have a bigger playing field?

I am running MAME 32.

Thanks

I know in commandline MAME there's a -noartwork option.

I'm sure there's something similar in the options menu for MAME32 also.  Go take a look ;-D

Keep the artwork option on, but turn the bezels option off.  It's clearly marked in mame.ini (assuming your use of Windows)

Not many mame32 users around these parts.Look under the additional art section.I think its in the view tab or in the general options and than just uncheck it.

this are some ways not to use bezels.

1. Don't download it or save it to a different location
2. delete it or move it somewhere else
3. check MAME.ini and turn it off

did I miss anything else ?

1 and 2 aren't valid.

Why?  Take asteroids deluxe for example.  It has a bezel and an underlay.  Removing the entire artowkr file would remove both of these, while simply turning off bezels specifically in the mame.ini will display it properly, sans bezel.  The same goes for battlezone, and similar games.

In MAME32, right click on the game, click Properties->Miscellaneous.
You'll see an option to turn off all artwork or just portions of it. I'm in agreement with you on the artwork. It works great for some games, like Space Invaders, but I don't like when it shrinks down the playfield.
