HOLY CRAP!

NOW who is to blame? Or is it just ironic and "the music made me do it"?

From what I've heard two band members were killed along with two others - others wounded.

I can only wonder what the heck made him do it. :-\

That's some crazy stuff right there. I'd never listened to Damageplan but used to listen to Pantera a lot in high school. As soon as I saw the name Dimebag Darrell I was like, WTF?!?

Like you, I wonder what the hell made this guy do it.

What a huge loss..im not a huge pantera fan, but as a fellow guitarist, he was undeniable a fantastic musician..
some idiot in a hooded sweatshirt walked up onstage at last nites show and opened fire killing darell and several others..
THIS WORLD HAS OFFICIALLY GONE TO HELL IN A HAND BASKET
the stage is the last place you ever expect someone to come up and shoot you six times in the face..
5 dead..... :'(

Sad. Darrell could really play the guitar. Pantera is one of the all time greats.

that is sad. I wore out my vulgard display of power and driven cassettes back in the day. Even saw them live once, really good performance. I wonder if this is gonna jack up the price on those dean guitars.

Well I guess we can make the Pantera reunion 3 more bullets joke now.

and what sucks is they killed the shooter, so how the hell are we ever going to know WHY he did it? Did he have some hatred towards the band? Was he in a rival band? did Darrel or someone screw his wife/girlfriend? ???

Anyway, a tragedy for sure.. I am in a band myself, and I hope nothing crazy ever happens when I am out there pouring my soul out... :'(

You think if you name your kid Dimebag, he'll live a nice long life, but this time, they were wrong.

That f'n sucks. Pantera was my first concert. 4th row. Right in front of Dimebag. I even caught and still have one of his picks. :'( Saw them again for my girlfriend, now wife's, first concert. Pantera really had a place in our hearts as odd as that may sound.

When I checked out Drew's post about Damageplan members being shot, I had no idea that Dimebag Darrell would be one of them. Although the circumstances suck, it's cool to see other Pantera fans posting here. Hopefully this idiot left behind some kinda message about why he did it.

Heard about this on the radio this morning. That's just insane. I'd certainly like to know what the guy's motive was, assuming he had one and it wasn't just some psychotic who randomly chose that time & place to snap.

The damageplan message board seems to be down.

In any case, I am not sure why people are concerned with the killer's motives. Are you expecting to find something that justifies the murder of 4 people? What could possibly justify that?

a guy jumped up on stage yelling directly at dimebag that he was responsible for breaking up pantera, and now how was "someone whos name i cant remeber" supposed to have money for heroin..

guess he then processed to shoot him right in the head..

im sure law enforcement asked for the site to be pulled down..
too many eye witnesses talking about with an active multiple murder investigation going on..

If he's talking about someone's heroin addiction, it was probably Philip Anselmo (lead singer for Pantera). If that's the case then this guy sounds like a total f'n loser with no life (no pun intended).

I've never heard this musician but what a shame for him and the other dead (except the shooter). Too bad Ohio has such restrictive concealed-carry laws that don't allow citizens to carry in establishments that serve alcohol. Just one armed citizen could have saved lives.

Not trying to justify anything. Clearly there's no justification for something like this. Only wondering why he would have wanted to do it.

Too bad Ohio has such restrictive concealed-carry laws that don't allow citizens to carry in establishments that serve alcohol. Just one armed citizen could have saved lives.

Oh yes, I'm sure a shootout in a crowd would have caused much less death.

They did have a shootout - and quickly. There were armed folks in the crowd

The police shot and killed the guy.

As you say - think of how many more could have been shot and killed if they hadn't been there.

Actually, think of how many could have been saved if they had been closer and more aware of what was going on - I'm betting they thought it might have had something to do with the show - hence the delay and resulting deaths.

NOW who is to blame?

Well....we know it wasn't the gun, as only people kill people.

Although this story is tragic, I have to say that with a name like Dimebag, my guess is that drugs are somehow involved.

Try using these to surround your "i's", MrC
Code: [Select]
                           [ ]
Well, THAT'S the first logical thing I've ever seen you say, even though you mean it sarcastically.

I've YET to see in the story where the guy threw his gun on stage and it went off, killing several people. Again, what you seem to miss, is the large 150+ lb wart of a human being who was hell-bent on extracting some sort of "justice".

From all reports thus far, the guy felt he needed to make someone pay - specifically that dimebag dude - and WAS able to get close enough where even without a gun, he'd have been able to kill at least ONE person - for some reason you can't seem to get it into your head that the gun was just what he chose to use - and the PERSON killed PEOPLE.

Hey, one thing I DON'T find your loony point addressing is how he would have been subdued - after all, he was subdued with - A GUN! What should the cops have done? Adopted a resolution that he drop the gun? ::)

Drugs were involved :o Do ya THINK? So I guess, like as in your silly jab at guns - we should now work to legalize more of them

   ::)

Hey, how's it going with your "get out the Kerry vote" campaign?

Yeah, it really sucks. Not just that its dimebag, I'll admit, I am not a huge fan. I like slayer better, but Its just horrific that this would happen. he was very talented, and from what I know, he didnt deserve it. I do want to know the motives. Sort of like when jammaster Jay was shot and killed. The only differences are the bands, and this was in a crowded area.

That's it, I'm going into the den and playing my Ozzy records...er I mean CD's yes, CD's

heh :-[

I've heard that listening to Ozzy can make middle class mothers who don't take an interest in their children's lives blame Ozzy in an effort to deny any personal responsibility they may feel ::)

Dartful, Randy Rhodes was the guitarist Ozzy was most enamored of, and with whom he made some of his greatest songs. Even though I don't get stoned anymore, I still like to listen to 'im once in a while....I think. The short term memory is a bit.....Even though I don't get stoned anymore, I still like to list... ;)

whether you're for or against gun laws, most people would agree that it's not a great idea to be having a whole buncha armed folks together drinking...

Which was the point I was trying to make. For the record, I'm not anti-gun. I own a couple myself. I just don't think it would have ended better had half a dozen civilians who had been drinking in that crowd pulled out guns and started shooting.

And good for the police officer who arrived and took this guy out. One less psychotic that the prison system won't have to feed for a few years before eventually sending him back out on the street.

Ya know, if all the pigs weren't out busting teenager's chops for buying and smoking oregano, they could have done some REAL police work here ;)

i totally agree..i dont want a bunch of people getting liquored up and packing concealed.
however on other side of the coin lies the fact that a person hell bent on ending life, isnt going to follow that law and those people that are,are likely going to meet the same fate as this horrific example demonstrated..

sadly theres no middle ground..well actualy there is...an armed police detachment should be mandatory at ANY concert gathering over 100 people.
i cant believe this club didnt have an officer detail there for this show..

Enjoying the fruits of technological obsolescence one game at a time...

It's a useless arguement anyway.

Even with CCW, it isn't legal to carry in a bar/nightclub. Nobody but the police was armed legally that night.

I'm all for an armed populace, but even I see why allowing guns in bars is a bad idea. One might be abke to make the case that metal detectors would have preventerd this frmo happening, but that's hindsight. You can bet they'll be present from now on. That's not a bad thing.

I can understand not charging a guy with a gun, if he's looking your way and his attention's on you . If he isn't, it only makes sense to jump him before he decides you look like a good target.

Take the people who were shot on a NY subway some year back. I understand not charging him while he's shooting randomly, but he RELOADED for Christ's sake! As soon as he drops the hammer on an empty chaimber, I'm on my way. All I have to do is prevent him from reloading untill more people jump him.....

Interesting to note:

Our liberally controlled blue states with strict gun restrictions and lenient sentencing policies seem to have the highest crime rates and highest rate of repeat offenders. The religiously zealotous red states have a lower crime rate. Hmmmm??? I live in a blue state so out of caution I keep a Ruger 44mag in the nightstand next to the bed ;D
Please! Give me the good news first!

Sources to support this?

My sources seem to indicate that the crime rates are significantly lower in MA, VT, NY and CA (typical liberally controlled blue states) than they are in TX, FL, SC, GA and TN (sample red states). And this pattern goes beyond the samples I cite.

What's next danny, posting a "Please come back to the forum" thread for Floyd10 to read? :-* ;)

Oh, I agree entirely--alcohol and guns DO NOT mix! However, I hate being disarmed when I go into a restaurant that serves alcohol and I drink Diet Coke.

In Ohio you can not go on a stage and start killing people, the man that did was breaking the law.
