Help me please power my arcade monitor: Im a NOOB :D
« on: September 02, 2004, 09:16:53 pm »
Hey people. First off, let me state, I'm a n00b to this scene. Im pretty good at wiring, but I dont really know what to wire. The arcade monitor I have is a WG 25k7191. I found the molex connection for the r,g,b,ground and sync. Im going to use the Ultimarc Videoamp for that part. My question is, HOW DO I POWER IT ON?!?!?

I have these items below:

Using those items, how will I power on my monitor, please someone help a brother. Thankyou and good day.

I don't know if the monitor needs an Isolation transformer or if its 120 or 220 volts. But if does not need an isolation transformer (like the newer ones), you just splice the cable from the monitor and put a regular plus so you can plug it in the outlet.

Wait for Ken Layton the expert with monitors, maybe hes got something for you.

My arcade cabinet came with a WG 7191 and an isolation transformer, so I used it.  I not certain if it's necessary or not.  My cabinet also had a flaky power supply, so I don't use the power supply.  I simply run the 2 power wires from the monitor into the isolation transformer.  Then I attached 2 wires to the isolation transformer's outputs which run out to a wall plug.

I, too, purchased a video amplifier, but I never found a use for it.  The monitor looks great without it.

Here are some pictures of how my isolation transformer is connected.  I added them to my web page, also:

The monitor stellarolla has is mine, we traded for it.  Unfortunately, I'm doing a pretty crappy job explaining how to set it up.  His monitor has and needs an isolation transformer, which he has.  I sent him the monitor, iso, and arcade power supply, as well as the control pod the monitor has to tweak the picture.  I (think) I've helped him figure out how to connect the monitor to display video, but he needs a break down of how to power it up.

Stellarolla, I'm gonna try to get you some pics of my monitor later, hopefully that will help you see what I (badly) tried to explain.

So help him out guys, give him a step by step of powering up the monitor.  I know there was a really nice site I read that helped me set this up the first time, but I haven't had to touch a monitor since, so that knowledge is a bit weak right now heh  ;D
first off your and idiot

Man I love the internet, haha.

Hey guys. I ended up stripping those wires I pictured above to see if it would power up. It did! Yay...... Now all I need now is an ArcadeVGA card and I should be set.

Looks like you may have already figured out how to power your monitor, but I thought I'd share how I did it , just to give you a few more ideas to play with ...

Basically the same design as mentioned earlier, but I've also added a fuse, a switch ... and made sure everything was grounded. I also found a small piece of plywood for mounting the pieces.

Just an idea ...  ;)
