Question about old cocktail games
« on: July 07, 2004, 10:41:14 am »
Was there ever any game that was played on a vertical cocktail machine and was head to head?  There was a cocktail warlords that was 4 players, one at each corner, but was there ever just a 2 player game, maybe something like pong, where you each played each other but at the same time?

All the cocktail games I remember were just stand up games, but ported to a cocktail machine.  It would be cool if someone had actually written a game to play to a cocktail machines strengths.

This has been asked a few times lately. Take a look at this thread - there's quite a few in there.

Damn I thought I had come up with an original idea, oh well.  Thanks for that link to Tank, that cocktail picture on KLOV brings joy to my heart.

There is also a football (soccer) game that I remember seeing when I was a kid (mid-1980s). Might have been called World Cup (I see on KLOV that there is Tekhan World Cup Soccer, so that is probably it). Thought it was a great game until I got Kick Off and Sensible Soccer on my Amiga (the latter of which is still the best football game ever, IMO).

*edit* According to KLOV, the cocktail cabinets had trackballs, and only the uprights had joysticks. The machines I remember were all cocktail cabs with joysticks, so perhaps I've got the wrong game. Either way, it fits your request :)

If I am wrong, does anybody else know to which game I am referring?

It too bad that tank will probably never be emulated in MAME.
