Yet another ArcadeVGA problem

OS: XP Pro
Monitor: Sony 21" G520
Card: ArcadeVGA

When computer boots the screen is black and the computer just keeps rebooting - there is nothing on screen, just a black.  I have actaully done a clean fresh install of XP with another card and then tried swapping in the AVGA without any luck...  I get no BOIS, no posting screen nothing.. but the computer seems to be going through the complete boot as I hear the Windows welcome tune.. I've tried this on two completely different motherboard/cpu/memory/hdd combos with exactly the same result

I haven't actually had to do this myself (I don't use windows XP) but I believe that when you boot in safe mode you will get a picture.

If not, you can try booting into safe mode with the "old" card installed and installing the drivers.  I'm not sure if this will work, however.

Just checking....  Do you have your arcade monitor connected to the lower connector on the ArdadeVGA card?

You might want to post in the Ultimarc forums as someone there might have already solved this problem...

That is a computer monitor. You need to hook up the arcadevga to a arcade monitor to install.
After you get that running, then you can connect a pc monitor to the secondary port.

ArcadeVga are only for Arcade Monitors not for PC monitors.

Ahh... that'd be it then cause the Sony is a PC monitor only...

So can I use the S-video port to set up at this stage or do I have to use the RGB => SCART setup from the start (ie. from installation)

I don't think the S-Video port shows anything until the Windows drivers load.

It sounds like the BIOS is failing the monitor test, because you're trying to drive a VGA monitor at 15Khz! You need an arcade monitor or a SCART TV to view anything from the Arcade VGA.

When you have one of these, wire it up and try again.

I belive you will get some sort of a picture from the AVGA on a pc monitor, it wont be readable tho ...

I just bought an AVGA of my own, and have this exact same problem, i have a D9200 and get no picture what so ever. I belive  there may be been a bad bactch of cards released

More modern PC montiors don't show a picture when the signal is out of range.  This may be the black screen problem you are having?

Continual reboot sounds like default "incorrect" drivers installed by XP is causing a blue screen.

Easiest way I found to get the AVGA card happening on XP was:

- Get an old PCI based card.  I used a old S3 card with about 2mb of RAM.... 7 or so years old.

- Place it in the PC.... do not install the AVGA card yet.  Set the BIOS to use the PCI video card as the primary.

- Build XP with a normal monitor, as you are using a PC based card.

-  Apon completion, shut down and install the AVGA in the AGP slot.

-  Boot into Safe Mode.... F8 like mad after BIOS init screens to access the Safe Mode menu option.

- Cancel XP's "found new hardware wizard"... and install the drivers from the CD.

- Reboot the PC, and go to the BIOS.  Set AGP to the primary video card slot.  Save the BIOS, exist, and and shutdown the PC.

- Removed the PCI card.

- Reboot and whammo... all is done and should be working correctly.

I've seen this problem posted a few times on BYAOC and the Ultimarc site... Wonderboy and krick have it right. Here's a section of the AVGA installation page from the Ultimarc site (http://www.ultimarc.com/avgainst.html):

"Blue screens and re-booting in XP after plugging in the card:
XP is trying to use it's built-in ATI driver. Either re-start in safe mode and then install the ArcadeVGA drivers OR delete the file ATIMTAG.SYS in the Windows/System32/drivers folder. Then install the ArcadeVGA drivers."

Reboot in safe mode, and try to install the arcadeVGA drivers.  Windows could be trying to use the stock ATI drivers.

Additionally, reboots and unexpected shutdowns shortly after startup can also be a sign that your computer is infected with the Sasser worm, especially if you did not install the KB835732 security patch yet.  You can get this patch from WindowsUpdate.microsoft.com, and the removal Tool from Microsoft.com, Symantec.com, and McAfee.com.

Just to make this perfectly clear as dabone said you cannot display a arcade vga card on a normal pc monitor.I have tried it you will get no picture.
