VIA just announced a new handheld console (x86). Here's the specs...

533MHz Eden-N Processor on a 133MHz front-side bus
128MB DDR266 SDRAM
20GB hard drive
VIA CN400 chipset
S3 UniChrome Pro graphics with 200MHz core clock
VIA Vinyl six-channel audio with EAX support
4" 640x480 LCD display
two USB 2.0 ports
802.11b Wi-Fi

It's kinda ugly...but plays PC games and even has MPEG/DIVX acceleration built in. Price point at release is expacted to be around $500. Hmm...was gonna get a PSP but...

I hope thats the prototype--a 10lb laptop would be easier to move around than that ugly thing since it appears that you can't fold it up???  It's "portability" reminds me of those 80's era cell phones ;D

One of the links mentioned a removable screen, tho I think this is to protect the screen in transit rather than to reduce the size of the thing...

I think it looks OK, nice to see some analog sticks anyway :)

How about this guy who's form factor has been compared on the Atariage forum to a Hostess fruit pie.

Does he have cancer yet?  You may want to inform him that cell technology has come a long way in the past 10 years and that new phones leak far less harmful radiation.
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

apparently the screen part contains it all... the rest is just the controller (swappable controllers ??? :) )

Modular -- Screen unit detaches from the controller. Carry just the screen unit around for media on the go. Swap controllers for a customized gaming experience.
