Attracrmode as of Feb 25, 215 "Added ability to display MaLa layouts (vertical and horizontal) beta" and as a plus it under active development. It also supports image lists.

If its an NES dedicated build Rom revisions are not an issue.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, those NES flash carts look pretty bad ass. I just wouldn't decase them on account of how pricey they are.

I've been going back and forth on the gutts for a Mario Bros Cabaret, and between a Pi, arcade SD, PC, PC10, stock hardware, and a NES, I'm stuck too. But that's future Chance problems. Personally I'll probably go Pi because I can coin up in game. For TLOZ that's the one biggest non-arcade hurdle you'll have. ...unless someone wants to modify the code in the rom for you to really be "arcade authentic".

Heres my Everdrive N8 that I originally intended for this build.  I bought the bare pcb from stoneagegamer.com and modded and painted a cart for it.  From what I understand, it doesnt work with the PC10.....but the Power Pak does.  Its a rad flash cart though, I love it!  The only way Id ever be able to play games like Little Samson, etc.

Yot's also knows I have a strong hatred for the overly complex coding abomination that You all refer to as Hyperspin. ;D

I love Denver, I was there at Mile High for a paintball tournament back in 2004, always wanted to come back. Plus, if Johns Arcade has taught me anything there are a few arcade gems in your state. Love the airport too, out of all of the ones I've been too, it's a favourite for sure.

Yes, I was thinking de-case a NES and de-case a copy of Zelda. Mount that on the wall inside the cab and be done. I'd use those $15 NES on a chip for a couple reasons: don't destroy a NES or the Nintendo gods will smite you, they're cheap, they're modern hardware, they don't have the complexity of the slot load tray. Oh and if you destroy a NES the Nintendo gods WILL smite you.

Youve mentioned a "$15 NES on a chip" a couple times....what exactly are you talking about?  Maybe I should use google? Haha

Let me play devils advocate for a second here, because I don't want to be suggesting feature creep, and an nintendo cab shouldn't have too complex of a control layout, but have you considered trying to get a bulk of the top down Zeldas on your cab? If you don't mind a blown up handheld screen on your monitor, there are a bunch of games like minish cap, oracle of ages/seasons, links awakening dx, etc. And of course Link to the past from the SNES. I am pretty sure you would only need 4 play buttons (+ select and start) to get most of them to play.

And if you are adventerous, you can have it play Zelda II and those wacky CD-i Zelda games games.

You know, when I first started this build I intended to make this a cab that could play both NES and SNES games...mostly because I wanted "A Link to the Past" since that is my favorite Zelda game.  But then after discussing it with everybody on here....I decided that I think Im going to keep this strictly an NES cabinet with a four button control panel.  A,B, Select and Start.  :)

My OCD is starting to get over the idea of "coining up" at this point.  Im thinking I will just do faux coin mechs like original Disney FIFJ cabs have.

What about using the same layout as the Vs CP's, that way you an have 2-player NES, drill a couple extra holes at the top and you can have start/select for each.  Just mod a Vs panel, this are so easy to come by these days.

Ahhhhhh.....so its just a fancy way of saying a clone system. haha   I actually looked into those systems at the start of the build as well.  The issue I was running into was compatibility with the Everdrive....a lot of them are sketchy when it comes to the roms and since this was gonna be a NES multicade I wanted to make sure it would work.

Way to be!  If you are gonna feel good about sticking with the original Zelda, then say no more. Simple is the way to go.

Curious, are you gonna label your buttons?

Yeah, I think so!  I think that would be really cool.  I also like the rupees idea for the insert coin sticker....so Im totally going to use that.

You know, it has dawned on me that if I was better at time management I would have used this last three weeks of bad weather indoors designing the artwork....but Ive been to busy being irritated that I cant be outside finishing my cabinet. Haha.

But after the snow this weekend, were supposed to get some SUNSHINE!!!  SO. FREAKING. AMPED!

I wouldn't go the NES on a chip root. I'v been told they can be buggy and you would  have to hack the controllers.

At some point I pointed out that an original NES with the lock out chip disabled, the card slot fixed/replaced, and a RGB mode pared with a CRT TV would be much cheeper the what you were thinking of spending for that modded PC-10. I wouldn't go that way ether, unless you wanted original hard ware and the best image posable.

PC based NES Emulations is pretty solid even on older an older PC.

What about using the same layout as the Vs CP's, that way you an have 2-player NES, drill a couple extra holes at the top and you can have start/select for each.  Just mod a Vs panel, this are so easy to come by these days.
That sounds cool.

Long time lurker, first time posting, but this thread may be useful:

What if you used Mame to emulate PC-10, and used PC-10 to coin-up.

I've tinkered with the PC-10 setup in MAME. To be honest, I think it's worthless to do. PC-10 acts as a FE, if you will, and a timer. Rather than do that, if he's going to use a PC to emulate, I would just have a regular FE that loaded the NES roms. Why keep feeding the machine coins for more time? It might be novel at first, but I think it would get tiresome after a while.

Long time lurker, first time posting, but this thread may be useful:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=73545.0

What if you used Mame to emulate PC-10, and used PC-10 to coin-up.

Thanks for the info.  I think that would be great, except I wouldnt be able to coin up and play NES games like Zelda.  The appeal of the PC10 was being able to use an NES flash card to play all the non PC10 games like Zelda, etc.

I think Im slowly accepting the fact that I wont be coining up and this is going to be a PC build.   It seems to be the general consensus as far as the best way to do it, so I will listen to the advice here and roll with it.  Anyway, the FIFJ cabs Disney built dont coin up, so I guess this one doesnt need to either.

On my other Nintendo builds I do have coin mechs, but I have yet to use them.  I just hit a coin up button under the speaker panel.  I just thought the option of coining up was cool....but I can live without it.  So PC it is.  Thanks guys.

P.S. Yotsuya, that would be cool.  We take the 80 across Wyoming and through Utah into Idaho.  Avoid Wyoming if you can. (and before anybody from Wyoming says anything, Im UW alumni and lived through the frigid 10 month long winters....so I think Ive earned the right to talk trash) Haha.

Mapping it out, it looks like Phoenix to Las Vegas, then all the way north through Nevada up to Idaho and then Boise.

You can always just run the PC10 rom in an emulator and still coin up.

That sounds like our routes would cross around Salt Lake on I-15.
