Hey Wyo! Very cool and original build you have going. I'm really jelly right now as you took my most 2 favorite things (Nintendo cabs and Zelda) and put them together into one glorious creation. You could literally stop building it now and it would still awesome. Also, I think we might be in the same neck of the woods. I live in the Denver area. South-East Aurora as a matter of fact.

I also wanted to show you something that was a really nice touch on my Mini DK build. I found it impossible to find original metal or even reproduction Nintendo cab serial plates. So I did some digging and found this guy that shows you how to make your own:

I used his technique and here is how my Mini DK serial plate turned out:

I even have the artwork files if you want them. You could even incorporate a triforce logo in the tag somewhere.   ;)
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.

Are you going to finish this up in the next week for the Showdown?

Haha, no.  Unfortunately the weather delays and poor time management (ie, I could have been inside designing artwork instead of sitting in the corner crying because I couldnt be outside) is gonna keep me from getting it finished up.

I havent started on the artwork....I got distracted last weekend with CRTs for my next Nintendo build, five slot 25" CRT DK.  I want to call it, Ultimate Red Donkey Kong....in honor of Chance! haha

Anyway, I gotta get going on the artwork.  First up, I need to make a couple small illustrations and get organized.  Hopefully soon.

It will definitely be ready for Vincon in Nor Co in October.

Thanks man, I will look into that!  I still havent made serial plates for my other builds....so thats a great reference.   Hopefully we will meet up sometime....are you planning on making it out to the Rocky Mountain Pinball Showdown next weekend?  A bunch of us from here and KLOV will be there on Sunday.

Your DK builds are incredible!

If you do build one, I think it would be awesome if it were just DK games. Anything else makes it a MAME cab, not an Ultimate DK.

Its more than likely gonna have the Arcade SD in it.  Ive always wanted a 25" Nintendo cab ever since I saw the Namco DK Trio.  I think thats such a rad cab.   And then I saw the Arcade SD on 34Ks Namco reunion cab with the 25" monitor and I was sold.   Ive already made the 5 slot speaker panel  and a few other cabinet parts.  And now Im in possession of a 25" WG 7401.....which I know absolutely nothing about....so this build should be a really good learning process. Haha.   Anyway, hope to start on that build as soon as Im done with Zelda.  So hopefully a month or so, Ill start a build thread.  THis will be my last Nintendo build.....although I kinda want to build a Duck Tales themed Nintendo cabinet.....AH this hobby! The creativity is endless...and addicting! Ha

No real update.  Life and work keeping me busy.  However, got the cabinet out of the garage today (to make room for new projects :) ) and downstairs next to last years builds.  I still have to put leg levelers on the bottom of Zelda, thats why its low riding next to the other cabs that have them. Ill do that tomorrow. Ive promised myself I will have the artwork designed by the end of the month....so here we go!

Haha, yeah. Cant wait to throw a red five slot in the mix.  Its like a Faberge egg threw up in the basement. Haha.

And as far as the art, you and me both!  But I think I have good direction.  Gonna start working on  it this weekend.  Just need to sit down and do it.  DO IT!

Artwork baby steps tonight.  Started with the coin sticker. I liked the idea of using rupees for the coin sticker instead of quarters (thanks Generic Eric!).   I googled the numeric value of rupees and found out that a red rupee equals 20, and a blue rupee equals 5.  So I translated 25 cents that way....or does that make $25? Haha, whatever.   Its make believe.  Anyway, the magenta rupee equals 50 so I used that as well.

What I cant decide is....do I want to use A and use the different color rupees....or do I want to use B, which is more like a Nintendo coin sticker but repeats the red and blue rupees?  Im kinda leaning towards A.  What do you guys think?

Yeah, good repro buttons would be so nice!

Wyo, I believe I have a harness and some other parts you may want/need if you don't already have a plan.
You still need to stop by and pick up those bits and test that monitor. We can chat about it then.

Haha, no but he said it was a possibility. For now I think I'll just use the bios and adapter.  Anyway, it was a good deal so I figured I'd pick it up. Getting the parts for a pc 10 over time shouldn't hurt quite as much as doing it all at once.  haha

Finally getting started on the artwork.  My plan of attack is to illustrate all the images that I plan on using first in illustrator....and then put all the design together.  So right now, Im just building my library of character art...

I did print out the Rupee sticker onto vinyl today and cut that out and applied it.  So at least I feel like Im getting somewhere. Haha.

The weird thing about this vinyl is that no matter how smooth it is underneath it still has a slight texture to it close up...as you can see in the picture I just posted.  Its weird, it kinda looks like wood grain.  I think its just the vinyl shrinking....which vinyl is known to do.  Whatever.

I ordered a Playchoice NES adapter and Bios from buffet over on KLOV.  Theres no real plan here....just kinda winging it as I go.  May do emulation for awhile and then switch to the Playchoice once I get all the parts.  Maybe.  Well see.  I have a WG G07.  The main things that I need now is the wire harness, isolation transformer, and power supply.

Anyway, thats the update as far as today.  Probably not going to make my artwork deadline by the end of the month....well, I know Im not.  But Im going to hit it hard in the next couple weeks  on my days off.  So hopefully soon Ill have something to show.    :)

This is turning out beautifully. I can't wait to see it in it's final state. I'm sort of tempted to make a bartop version of this when my kit from Haruman comes in. I'm a huge Zelda fan.

It looks good next to your other two builds.

I wonder if the EverDrive N8 NES would work on with that board and adapter? it would save you lots of trouble digging in the back to change games.

Maybe for big quick artwork, but fine detail work, it didn't  work for me.

I have  to agree with Superfrog on this one.  You can't get the finesse just by letting the program do it.  Line by line all the way.  I love the rupees as credits also Wyo.  Nice touch.

As far as livetrace goes, I do have to say that I always attempt it as my first step. There sometimes is salvageable material.

You guys are crazy, embrace the future  ;D :P

I have the same thoughts on the soft look Vigo. Really curious and excited for this!

They embraced the future in T3 and everyone died.  No thank you sir.  No thank you.

It looks good next to your other two builds.

I wonder if the EverDrive N8 NES would work on with that board and adapter? it would save you lots of trouble digging in the back to change games.

Im hoping that my Everdrive N8 work....but Ive read that it may not.  Ive read that the PowerPak works....but Ill have to test it to find out.  Otherwise, I may just have to get a Powerpak specifically for this build. Ill keep you all posted on the compatibility!

Plugging away at the artwork recreation today.

Went over to 34Ks arcade last night and we tested the Playchoice PCB in one of his red tents.  It works great!  Hes gonna be hooking me up with wire harness as well.

While I was there, he dug out a Nintendo PCB cage that he had laying around and totally hooked me up with it!  Thanks again 34K!  Its gonna make this cabinet feel just a little bit more authentic by the time its all said and done.

Also, I decided Im going to go ahead and use a Sanyo EZ that I got a couple weeks ago from KLOVer Nerdtendo.  It has very minimal DK3 burn and it only just needs a cap kit.  Ive never actually done of of those before, fortunately the great 34K has the tools and knowledge in that department to help a brother out.

Here are the pics of the latest acquisitions for this project.  With the wire harness and NES adapter and Bios in the works....this just leaves sourcing a isolation transformer for the CRT left as far as internals go.  I opted to use a brand new Happ switching power supply that I have laying around for another project.  Oh yeah, and I just need to figure out how to wire it all up. haha.

That's awesome. I love it when you see fellow arcade enthusiast helping out one another. Makes this community really great.
If you can read this, it means Photobucket's money grab ruined my signature photos.
