#2015nobartop #nobartops2015 didn't seem to pop anymore.

I have no idea what happened to LT's posts. It appears he pinballjim'd himself away a spell.  Hopefully its just a hiatus.

Man, I hope he figured out how to automate that.  Deletion was a fairly easy macro process, you just had to build the command URLs and slam the forum with them.  Couple of spreadsheets and browser plug ins and you were good to go.

Zapped posts 100 at a time and I'm sure that was a pretty inefficient way to do it.  Manually editing 1,800 posts... eesh.

Going on a hiatus for whatever reason is one thing, but taking the effort to wipe all your posts?

In all fairness, I think it's a good time to discuss whether forum members should be able to edit/delete their own posts after a certain amount of time has passed. I remember people compaining that some of PBJ's old posts were very informative, and it really sucked when they were deleted. Not sure how that discussion ended up. :dunno

The success of this community lies within sharing the stuff you come up with. I certainly learned a lot from others here, making booze from honey included. LT made some fresh stuff - those faux coin door plates with NovaGemCDR buttons were really cool alternative to a real coin door. A shame to see that info lost.

SMF (the forum software) has the necessary option "Maximum time after posting to allow edit", the question is whether it should be set. An hour should be enough even for X2 to spellcheck his walls of text.

I don't know what happens when a person decides to delete his/her account - are the posts wiped, too?

@ Tully - please come back dude.  You're builds were great, your presence always added to the conversation, and I for one, thought you a really stand up guy.  If there is any external life stuff that prompted the purg I hope everything is okay and you get it worked through in due course.  Can't imagine it was forum internal but if it was I'm sorry we ran you off.

I heard from Louis in real life. He just needs to take a break right now. He's asked that we respect the fact that he took his stuff down because its his information/ intellectual property , & I agree with him. My concern was that he was ok, and he is. I told him when he's ready to come back, we'll welcome him with open arms.

I had just wrote that I have downloaded a copy of his Asteroids Deluxe build, offering to post the pics. I'm gonna keep that copy for myself. I respect his will. At the same time we have to ask ourselves: What are we gonna do with the pictures/ideas/builds on this site? Who's property are they? Can it be used commercially for example? Is a license agreement required for the builds from now on?

To answer a previous question, if an account is deleted their posts stay as does the user name.  There are plenty of those posts around now.  Tommy springs to mind.  WizardofDelRay or something like that was a fairly prevalent account that he deleted about ten years ago.  And everyone knows about Jimmy trying to flush his out.

Interesting to proclaim intellectual property on the internet on a public server, hosting a public discussion board.  Intellectual property theft on the internet is really only illegal when someone else posts said property to the internet.  Im pretty sure, definitely not a lawyer, that that goes away when you dont take measures to make it intellectual property.

Kind of reminds me of a situation when a user PM'd selfies to an Admin of a forum and the Admin posted them to a thread.  All intents and purposes of private property are kind of done away with at that point.

If Saint locked down the edit feature, there really isnt much the poster could do, so much as I understand it, if they provide the content willingly.

 :dunno

Either way, dude was a pretty solid contributor to the site and it sucks that a wealth of knowledge, advice, and constructive criticism decided to remove it all from a public forum of his peers and friends.

Intellectual property, similar to trademark law, can definitely be retroactively invoked. At least, that's how it works here in Canada. I'm pretty sure that most Admins would be pretty helpful if a user made a respectful request.

meh.  Now that we know he is ok, this post can be all about remembering LT.

But if you want to debate the appropriate way to disappear, or go on hiatus or take a sabbatical, let's do that in another thread.

Somehow I don't agree. You post pictures, ideas and get feedback from other users and then decide on the final build. Is that build exclusively yours? With that in mind, can you demand total deletion of everything you've ever written on a public forum?

I have way too much respect for LT's work to question his decision to delete everything he has ever posted. But is it right? I don't know...

Actually, I think this thread is the PERFECT place to have that discussion.

They're his photos and his words and he made the decision to share them with us. If he doesn't want to share them anymore, so be it. We've learned enough from him to run with his ideas, and for that we're grateful. But we should respect his wishes in this matter. :dunno

Conversation pro/con deleting your shiz can be moved to here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,143911.0.html but doesn't have to be.

That way the LT thread can just stay about well wishes to LT as OP asked - or not.  Whatevers ::)

There's also the argument that this is Saint's forum and it's his stuff once it's posted.  I know Saint's the type of guy that would be open and respectful of someone's wishes about what happens to his posts.  Just takes effective communication from him to Saint....

It's not even in the correct forum.  Without rules, we are just savages.

I can't quit you ---daisies---; I've tried.  All I know is I wouldn't go through +80 pages to delete my posts to do it.

My teenage daughter was talking about the Black Plague the other day.  I tried to tell her that people really said "bring out your dead".  She almost believed me.

It's not so much that LT wants to be forgotten as that he feels he needs to step away, and he feels this is the best way for him to do that. He's not mad at anyone, he's not in any sort of trouble, he just needs to change his focus, if you will, and this is how he has chosen to do that. I respect that, and I think we should all do the same.

I understand if you want to walk away.  For whatever reason.  But why nuke your account and everything you posted?  LT had some great ideas and his work showed how well he could take a wild brainstorm and make it a reality.  No matter how unorthodox his ideas were.

I'm not pissed at anyone or anything like that. Not it at all. That's silly. I mean, some of you guys are asshats but that's just how it is. The cool folks just shine a little brighter because of you.  ;D So, I guess, thanks.

To be honest, the whole thing is complicated as ---fudgesicle--- and personal. Sometimes I do stupid ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- like this. My brain isn't stable, that's the ---goshdarn--- problem. I can't ---smurfing--- help it. No jokes. I usually have a decent handle on it but at times I lose my grip. And I have to start over. I'm really surprised I managed to stay as long as I did. This was a record run in my book. Believe me.

This place has helped me more than any of you will ever understand. I can't thank you guys enough for being my friends. Even if it is some stupid internet type of friend. I don't have many, so I'll take it. I just need to get my ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- together again for the billionth time. I'm really sorry I messed up the award/voting stuff for this year. I didn't really fit in that anyway. I hope all of you do well with whatever you're into. (not you asshats)

The board will still be here if you want to come back someday.  I do hope, though, that you kept backups of the stuff you nuked.  Even if it's for your own personal archive.  Years from now it'll be cool to look at the process that went into your projects and remember.

I heard from Louis in real life. He just needs to take a break right now. He's asked that we respect the fact that he took his stuff down because its his information/ intellectual property , & I agree with him. My concern was that he was ok, and he is. I told him when he's ready to come back, we'll welcome him with open arms.

Thank heavens he's OK, definitely a stand up guy - will miss his work and contributions - hopefully at some stage he comes back - All the best LT

Just ask Saint to pull the backup tape from his provider (or raise a ticket) last month and have him install it in another instance in his account.  It would be easier to do that and link up the missing material.  Or check the internet archive....

Well, I have no idea what to say about LT. He's a good guy and we had a certain Ghostbusters rooted comradely. At this point, he just needs time.

I do want to say that I have been there, and wanted to share my personal experience....

I had to leave the forums for a couple years and wash my hands clean of it. Never thought about deleting my ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---, but I was never one to post a project unless it is unique enough for others to use. I did however just want to be forgotten.

I had to just shut off the computer and focus on my life. I was overly involved both on this forum and a certain clubhouse, and heavily lurking at KLOV. Between that and tackling a lot of changes in my life, I had to give up my online existence completely for a while. I failed to look at any forum or respond to PMs. Heck, I even stopped talking family and friends over email.

Then I decided to check back inhere, and was shocked to see how much the scenery had changed around here. Completely different members were the heavy contributors, and at first I was upset. Then I realized a change of scenery is exactly what I needed and so I stuck around ever since. Nothing against a single member from the day, those guys are all great. I just needed to breathe some fresh air.

I barely lurk KLOV unless I directly need something, I politely declined an invite back in to the clubhouse, and I don't even look at facebook or linkedIn anymore. I had to make sure that this my only home for the time being, or I am gonna put myself at a higher risk of burnout. It is surprising when something enjoyable turns into an emotional drain, but it does.

The idea that any sort of mental health issue equates to weakness or lack of "manhood" is antiquated and offensive.  Your assumptions are ignorant.

LT created some impressive projects and I can appreciate his ingenuity. I'll miss his approach. However when he decides to come back, he may bring even more.

Mr. Tully....If you're gonna leave go, personally I could care less.  Your removal of "intellectual property" is disrespectful of the BYOAC members past, present, and future. At best a collaborate effort...You're the only asshat here.

Don't be a ---Bad words, bad words, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when saint censors you?---.

You posted a pic of "Jennifer" and removed it, that's "disrespectful of the BYOAC members past, present, and future".

Gotta watch that hypocrisy...
A naked pic of Jenn in the camper is not intellectual property.... And NOT how I want to be remembered here.

Reposted here because Eric's being anal in the IP thread:

I'm going to add this, then I'm going to STFU...

Trust me when I say Louis didn't take his ball and go home. He didn't take down his stuff, only to go post it somewhere else. He took down all his arcade stuff because, quite frankly, it was taking over and he needed to just quit, and this was the best way that HE knows how to do it. He's not doing this to punish US, he's doing it because it's how HE has chosen to take control of the situation. He told me this has happened with other hobby sites, and it works for him.

He's told me explicitly that he doesn't care about IP (admittedly, that was my word because in describing his posts and pictures, I thought it was more concise and eloquent than "my ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---"). I know for a fact he's done design and art for other people, and he sent me the plans for "The Tully" cabaret, which I fully intend to build. I'm sure he's proud of that. But in order to walk away, he feels like he really need to GET AWAY- again, not to punish us, not to withhold his ideas, but to give himself a reason NOT to go back. I can respect that.

I'll end with this- we all love the Mario Pedestal. But think about the level of determination, commitment, and even obsession that you would need in order to manually carve the same pattern into each and every block over and over again, and then use a ball-point pen to color each and every block over and over again. How many of us would be willing to do that? That's where he was at, and that's why he decided enough was enough.

#asshat.   ;D

:P that WAS ment as a sincere tribute to someone who was deticated, nice, and inventive. I personally have zero opinion over the whole deletion thing. And I hope that says something, because most of you know me as a pretty opinionated guy.

I'll second this and add a bit more.  Your work is impressive and you absolutely fit in the awards, you earned that.  Don't belittle your accomplishments.

You were an inspiration to watch work and I wish you well.  I understand mental things happen and people need to do what they need to do.  I wish you well and hope things even out for you.  I hope to see you here again some day!
