Hooking a ArcadeVGA to an 8Liner?
« on: October 30, 2014, 05:03:20 pm »
Hi gang,

I've got a good bit of experience with arcade and mame cabs. I've rebuild monitors, built 2 cabs from scratch. Converted and restored junk cabs but I am stuck on a monitor issue and looking for help.

A few months ago I ordered a "working" Cherrymaster 19" monitor from 8linersmonitors on ebay. I'd bought 2 other monitors from this guy victor in the past and had no problems.

I can't figure out how I'm supposed to hook up the VGA cable to the chassis. Did I get ripped off or am I doing something dumb. It's a 6 pin connector and here's how I have it wired:

From left to right I've got Red, Green, Blue, Ground, Vertical and Horizontal from my VGA cable. This is how the pins are marked on the chassis. I've got continuity to each connection point. I hear my game come on and all that, I just get no game pic. Just a plain white image (with the brightness turned up). Everything else is hooked up correctly on the chassis, degaussing, 120, the stuff from the yolk..

Here is a pic of the whole chassis:

And just the video connector:

When I plug in the Arcade VGA DVI connector I get a normal picture on my LCD monitor, so I'm not thinking the card is shot. Also, I tried the monitor on a separate known working PC with Arcade VGA and got the same results.

I've just never seen a connector like this so I want to see if someone can point out something dumb I've done. I've also tried to bridge the H and V connectors and got no results.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate anyone that provides any input.

I think we need to sort out two things here.
* What output signal is sent from the PC (lo-res, med-res, hi-res)?
* What kind of chassi is it (lo-res, med-res, hi-res)?

So, my prime suspect is that you are feeding it wit the wrong signal. Not saying that it is the situation, just my assumption.

you di not mention if you are using a breakout cable.

But here is a diagram of how to make one (2nd post).
