Which game is this side art from?
« on: December 11, 2013, 08:28:30 pm »
I scored this cabinet as it was waiting for the garbage man a few blocks from my house.

Can anyone identify which game the side art is from? It sure ain't Rygar :)  I've been searching and can't figure it out.

I'm just talking out ---my bottom--- here, but a guess might be that it is an Asteroids cab that someone converted to a Missle Command? Maybe Atari or some aftermarket arcade supplier supplied this artwork for on location conversions.  :dunno

Have you checked for a serial number plate or label inside/around the back door?

I browsed Google for arcade side art all day yesterday during work and I could find it. As mentioned is there a aserial plate or any type of markings or numbers we can use.

Is it the same on the other side?

Perhaps take a picture of just the side and then do reverse image search on the internet?  Make sure the lighting is good.

I'm 99.9% sure that's a Sidam cab from 1980/81. Italian manufacturer, mostly of cloned/bootlegged stuff. They made a machine called Missile Storm in 1980 that used a very similar sideart design but I think yours is another machine they produced called Missile Combat.

The Missile Storm cab looks like this (pretty similar to yours):

Hope that helps!

Hope you decide to save it and not remove it.  :(

see a thread like this and understand MAME a little clearer.. That side art while not one of the masters.. will be lost forever someday.. Nobody (but a few of us ) looks at it and see's it as ART.. I know i see some of the cool stuff they did on those old cabs and want to put it on my walls. Defender always stood out for me.. awesome art on that.. and so many more..

at first glance i would have guessed a bootleg Missile command  (as somebody mentioned sorta).. there where so many Space Invaders like games in those days.. hard to tell.  And again as mentioned.. so many bootlegs, other countries etc..

gone forever someday.

I second that.  This is a keeper, don't cover it, don't scrape it, don't restore it.  Just leave it.

I remember there were some guys on some of the Spanish language forums that were vectorizing the art on some of these. Think the bezel was done. I'll have to find that stuff again.
