Flan normally comes with caramel sauce anyway. A packet of the mix stuff is a buck o' five at the grocery store. (same price as freedom). That gigi crap looks terrible. It is just a couple packets worth of puddin' molded in a pail.

I used to make quite a bit of puddin'...the real way. Just became interested in the stuff after taking a food science class. Custard, bread puddin', tapioca. No compare to instant. Creme Brulee is awesome. I'd bring my blowtorch up from my shop to do it right. Lead solder remnants make a much better seasoning than caramel sauce.

For the locals, I have a Creme Brulee Danish Pastry.  I concur - it's flippin' awesome.

That does look like flan, which I hate.  I'll bet if you made a commercial like this for any product you want and plugged it in to a Superbowl you'd have people in the US talking about it for at least a couple weeks.

I think the Major difference here... is the addition of Jello or something similar..  as the pudding shown seems very elastic.

From the descriptions, its some sort of Japanese Custard Pudding.  Heres a recipe I found for that:

http://iina.com/pudding/recipe/junko/junko_e.html#ZAIRYO

Not sure if thats the base of which they use..   if thats different from Flan...  and or what changes they have made to get that elastic effect.

(and of course, anything made with real & fresh ingredients, will taste vastly superior to the chemistry dump thats in most modern processed  ???"food"???... as well as being less likely to destroy your long term Health & well-being )

Sadly, thats the mass Zombified nature of a lot of the population.  If its big in the Media..  Its got to be 100% True, good, popular, hot, bought, copied...

Most especially the younger crowd..  where  Popular images, songs, missing out, and popular opinions.. are more important than anything else in the world.

Still, I wonder if theres just a certain kind of genetically developed brain, that is just very receptive to this kind of thing..  (copying / following)  where as others, just are not phased by it.    Of course, it may be amplified by things like the school system, which bases its value on patterned memorization.. rather than creative and independent thinking.
