AimTrak Light Gun issues with video projector
« on: June 27, 2013, 09:36:23 am »
Just received my Aimtrak Light gun and having some issues.  I'm trying to use it with my video projector which projects about a 9 foot image.  My computer is in the back of the room with my control panel which is about 12-15 feet away from the screen. With the standard length of the USB cord for the sensor bar I can only get the sensor about 3-4 feet in front of the gun.  Obviously this isn't working and I can't even calibate the gun correctly becaulse the sensor won't pick up at the sides.  Guess I should have read a little more about the functional size of the screen before I purchased.  So now for some questions.

1. Is it possible to get the gun working in this configuration?
2. If I manage to extend USB cable and put the sensor above the projected screen area will the gun work at this 12-15 foot range?
3. Does the sensor bar need to actually be plugged into the computer with the gun or could I power the sensor bar with an external USB hub not connected to the computer?

Thanks for your input!

The sensor bar is just a bunch of infrared leds, so you don't have to connect it to the computer (just power)

I think there is a test utility included in the software which shows what the camera in the gun picks up, so you could use that to see how far back you can go.

Good info. Thanks!  Do you think this sensor may help in this situation?

Looks like it's made just for projectors/large screens.
