Problem running a radoen hd 3650 with powerstrip
« on: October 21, 2012, 11:52:44 am »
Hello everybody! I'm here with the hope to get some help connecting a Commodore 1085s monitor to a Radeon HD 3650, of course to use it with MAME.

I have correctly installed the card drivers and powerstrip. I can correctly create any resolution I need but these are available only on the composite output, the RGB output forces me to 1440x900, no way to change it. And Windows resolution selection stays ghosted. Needless to say that also in MAME I can access any other resolution, if not connected on CV.

Any clue on what I'm doing wrong?

Thanx in advance

I'm not familiar with that card, but you should look up Soft15kHz and check if it's compatible.  If so, try installing Soft15kHz, if not, get a card that is compatible.  Won't cost much.

Hi, thanx for your reply!

soft15khz finds correctly the card and installs but after a reboot is says it's not installed and nothing changed, so I'm even more puzzled...

Let's say I want to check the compatibility of the card, any hint on how to do that?

Thanx again

There's nothing in Soft15kHz that let's you know it's installed after restarting, and there's no Soft15kHz program that you use after installing.  To make adjustments after installing you should install powerstrip.

This is the list of compatible cards:

http://community.arcadeinfo.de/showthread.php?7925-Getestete-Grafikkarten

If you can't find yours on the list, it hasn't been tested, so it may or may not be compatible.

If you do find yours on the list, notice there's a suggested driver with most card listings.  You need to use that exact driver to ensure compatibility.

Correct install, the order is very important:

1.  Wipe everything.  Uninstall graphics driver, uninstall Soft15kHz, uninstall anything else video related.  Use a driver sweeper type program if you have to.
2.  Install the recommended driver.
3.  Install Soft15kHz
4.  Install Powerstrip
