Necrobump because my favorite time of the year is soon upon us - the Fall, when there are tailgates everyweekend and public drunkenness is not only condoned but expected!!!

So at the top of this thread I made a corn hole/beer pong table.  There were several things right with this build but a few things wrong.  It was heavy - stupid 2x4 and 3/4" plywood heavy, and it was kind of a pain to get into and out of corn hole mode.  Fortunately it was for a friend, which is the best way to do new projects because they're always happy with what you make and you can make all your mistakes on theirs.

Well after some careful planning I am proud to present the yet unpainted but construction-wise finished BEERHOLEtm!!!

BEERHOLE is lighter but just as stable as the original, with no bounce play as a corn hole.  It is self filling - no more screwing in that pesky corn hole.  It is regulation size for both competitive corn hole and beer pong (yes that's a thing... god bless 'merica!).  Best of all, for a single person conversion it goes from pong to hole in 1 min flat and from hole to pong in 90 seconds.

Just need to get it painted.  Pics!

Once I get'er painted up I'll post again.  Yes I know I have other important projects to be working on and yes I know that this isn't arcadey but it is damn good fun and the original heavy ass slow changing version got used probably 40 times a year for the last two years so that's like basically more than half the arcade builds in this place lol.
That's a brilliant idea.  Great job.

Theme for them?

Theme will be Auburn University being that I'm a AU grad.  I'll be using the woodgrain as the white in all the logos so it should just be orange and blue on wood.  Oughta turn out pretty sharp.  I'm borrowing heavily from some other AU corn holes I've found online and liked but of course with my own preferences.  I have a set of plans laying around somewhere that I'll get uploaded so others can make their own but really once I take a pic of the bottom that'll be all you need - and frankly you can probably copy it just fine from the pics that are posted already.  Each board is 2'x4' with 3" rises and the pong legs are 30".  Tables join with two simple 1" dowel push plugs.

They have cornhole tournaments around here.  In fact I'm pretty sure they break the record for largest cornhole tournament every year at Gillette Stadium.  Lots of people playing this game around here because there are so many Patriots and concert tailgaters.

Man those people get drunk when they play.  That's the actual challenge.  It doesn't seem to be the board with one hole in it.  It's the fact that to them there must be three moving holes.

Having spent a fair amount of time playing corn hole under the influence I have found that the hole remains right where it should be, but everything else around that lane gets very fuzzy.  In a way it's like you're creating an alcohol induced sensory deprivation chamber - by the time you're deep in there is only you and the bags.  Once you shift focus off the corn hole everything goes to hell.

Reminds me of the WKRP episode where Johnny and Venus drink on the air and then have their reaction times monitored to show the effects of drinking.  Venus' times go down while Johnny's improve dramatically.

Every thread needs a WKRP reference.   :applaud:

I didn't mention it before, but I think your new cornhole is very nice and clean looking. It is a very innovative idea and I think it is marketable as well. I'd be willing to bet that you could make a lot of money selling your cornhole to college students. I'd consider showing it around to a few companies when you are done.

Oh, and since you seem to be the yard game master around here, if you are ever looking for a game to try/build, I recommend looking into kubb, aka viking chess. It is almost strictly a DIY built yard game and is pretty darn fun. My brother, who teaches HS art/shop class has his students build sets every year and it gained a cult following in the town where he teaches.

I had to Google it but it looks interesting.  Way too complicated if you've been drinking though until you know all the rules in and out....

I can imagine the game could degrade pretty quickly into just chucking sticks at each other.  :lol

Thanks man, I appreciate it; also, phrasing!  Boom! Nailed it.

My original thought behind this was as a marketable product.  I thought about trying to do a kickstarter (gak ack political band!) and crank out my own - ideally it would be an avenue for me to get my own CNC machine, but I like the idea of shopping it out to established businesses.  Lot of merit in that idea - that and I already have a career and am not really looking to eat up all my free time grinding out Beerholetm sets.  Depends on what I could sell them for I guess, I should probably hurry up and finish this one and take it to a few AU tailgates and see how it goes.

Kubb looks cool, I'm watching a few videos about it now.  Looks like a simple fun build - will have to add it to the queue.  Thanks!

See, and that's a perfect use for Kickstarter. People who want one prepay, you raise the capital to make it, and all are happy. You provide a product in exchange for their investment/payment.

If it were "Help me raise money to buy me a cornhole so I can be the 2015 Cornhole Champion", then I'd have to kick you in the balls.

Yeah I have no problem with kickstarter when it's something like "I've made this product but I can't afford to mass produce it... how about some pre-orders?"  on the other hand "I've got this idea for a product that may or may not work, how about 2 mill for r&d?" gets my nard kicking foot to twitchin'.

Yep. Terrified my wife when I spent hours painting it then she finds me sanding it down. I wanted to add some patina before I seal it up.

Thanks guys, I need to do some work on the plans and get it converted over to mach3.  My buddy just bought a full sheet CNC and I get free tool time on it which means I have to start learning some software.  I want to focus on Space Base build wise for the next several months but I think there may be an attempt to go retail with this design.  Going to test it by throwing parties and going to fullball games with this season and see how it holds up.

I have to be out of town for AU's opening game but I'll get it to out to the first home game I can and see how it does in the wild.  Might bump the final up to a full 3/4" panel if I can get the full build out of a single sheet that way.  I think I might be able to swing it.  Maybe not.
