Arcade Ecosse - build thread / announcement
« on: August 06, 2012, 12:10:43 pm »
Hello all !!!

I started out here with the intent of thoroughly documenting and posting my build as i went, i of course failed completely and here i am a month after I started with an almost finished cab, no notes and 12 random pictures - oh well.

this was my first build so i decided to start out pretty simple and after some hunting around i really liked the overall proportions of mikes cabinet over at arcadecab.com.  I redimensioned it into something that works for me , i'll post the visio files when i get a chance.

i owe a debt of gratitude to Mike, Kneivel and everyone on this site for bits of inspiration and some downright theft of ideas.  thanks all.

The basics :

Guts :  Old Dell 4550 PC
Monitor :  Dell 2001 20.5" FP
speakers : Creative 2.1 cheapo system (sounds great)

Construction : all 3/4" MDF with pine framing and batons

right now using MALA FE, but looking at hyperspin, just havent had the time to get it all working, the cab has powerline networking

Overall the artwork is not final, the CP may be getting a redesign having now been used - removal of the 4 way and movement of the spinner being primary on the list.
Once i decide on the theming and the CP layout then I'll be getting some stuff printed up by game on grafix.

Any ideas on side art are appreciated - cabinet is loosly themed on my youth in scotland and trips to the seaside arcades (following caravans with ecosse stickers on them for miles !!)

Already thinking about what i would do different for the next build :
Cabinet would be about 8-12" shallower it doesnt need to be so deep with the LCD in there
Auto Rotate monitor
Swappable CP center section - flightstick + throttle, wheel + shift , yoke etc ...
Pedals
Guns
lights :)

Pictures below - thanks again .

Tony

Looks good! I find documenting builds more work then building the cab itself. I failed there also....

I think I might give the light guns a go next time round.

Used Mikes cab plans on the two full size cabs I built also.

Make sure to post pics of the side art when it is finished....

How do you like the look of the LCD?  Did you put tinted glass in front of it?

I have clear glass in fornt of it and to be honest it looks fine for my needs - the dell 2001FP is a pretty nice LCD - I was originally going to put in a 32" LCD TV but every game on that looked like ass so I reverted tot he smaller but nicer dell monitor.
