I'm selling some headphones (new, because I bought the wrong ones....), and some guy messaged me with the following:

Would you trade the headphones along with $120 from you for a white Xbox 360 Pro 60GB 1 white wireless controller halo ODST Command and conquer 3 and left 4 dead?

I said I didn't play console games.

Then he said: im asking because the deal could easily be sold for atleast $150 or more

I said, "Then sell it and come back and buy the headphones."

But he wasn't done: craigslist wont let me post to sell why you think im asking for trade and some cash lol

I said, "I guess we're both hosed then."

Also had some guy trying to push these rediculously overpriced "beats" headphones on me. listened for about 1...2...3 seconds before i was like "dude that sounds like crap." looked online at some testing they did with them... hell they can't get the sound coming out of the the left and right to match...and the response curve had this crater in it that looked like a nuclear bomb hit it.

I just recently gave away a Banzai waterslide on CL. I told everyone in the posting and emails to meet at a certain corner at 9:00am after school busses and trash pickup came through the neighborhood. By the time I walked my son to the bustop (8:30am), I counted 12 cars/trucks/vans, all people waiting for the waterslide. Some chatting with each other about how they were promised the slide (I didnt promise anyone anything). A sheriff deputy pulled up asking what everyone was doing at that corner (neighbor called) and he made everyone move their cars so the busses and garbage truck can get through.

Long story short, people were at that corner the night before knocking on doors asking about the waterslide. People were at that corner at 6:00am that morning to be first in line to get it. After my boy got on the bus, I walked back home passed all the people, jumped in my truck, drove to the corner, jumped out, pulled waterslide out of the bed, placed the blower on top and 25 hilljacks rushed the darn thing. 2 ladies, one with a very small baby ended up with it after some bickered about email promises they didnt get.

So, giving away something on CL isnt as easy as you might think. Guess if I'd mentioned the slow air leak or faded colors, I probably wouldnt have gotten that kind of attention with it.

Depends on the item. Things many people in this hobby would want, you can't pay regular people to take. But stuff like you had, oh yeah, you get the roaches coming out of the woodwork. Something like that I'd just leave out on the corner without telling anybody it was going to be there. Maybe leave it on a corner at least a half mile away.

No door to door trash collection in my county. Everybody hauls their own to the nearest collection point where you can find piles of free stuff all the time. Anytime I've put something of value there it's been gone before I was back in my car. Makes it easy. No mess, no fuss.

I posted an ad in the free section on CL once for a hive of bees that had taken up in an owl house in my back yard.

I got so many calls within about 30 mins, I had to take the posting down.

And the exterminator was gonna charge 250$ to get rid of it

that's pretty good, i thought i was doing good with my fat xbox ultimate with the 120gb drive for $115.

it had a dozen or so xbox arcade games installed on it, so I ain't even mad.

but thats because I have a customer base. I always have people looking for these. few months ago(when rgh was released) I found 2 falcon jtags(no chip inside) for 90 each. hustled it down to 160 delivered. some of you here own those consoles lol..

Everything related to consoles on craigslist seems to be dominated by children, idiots and idiot children. 98 percent of the game titles I see listed on there are listed at prices higher than the shipped price on amazon for a new in box copy. People want to meet at a restaurant parking lot to sell some idiot obsolete children's title for $5 (same title new in box 1 cent on amazon).

Most annoying is the things with the word arcade somewhere in the title or description, I have no choice but to see all of that stuff if I want to have any chance at the game deals. Boy is there some stupid stuff out there with arcade in the name.

People relist the same piece of junk $20 thing every SINGLE day for six months. These two turds below have been relisted every couple days all year. Both have arcade in the title so I get notices on them over and over again.

This, more than everything else combined, has often come close to convincing me to drop this hobby. Fellow Collector Butthurt should be a formalized term. I have had deals where I have bought trashed old games that had been in a forgotten warehouse so long that there was a cab shaped dust crater on the floor. Straight up, full disclosure, I have cash in hand and a truck let's do this tomorrow. Post pics on a regional site and there is always a Fellow Butthurt Collector who flames me and posts that he had tried to buy those that same set of games, disregarding that they were among 75 in the warehouse, 5 years ago. They accuse me of backdooring their deal. It never matters whether or not I have ever heard of this Fellow Butthurt Collector, or that years had passed, or that they never actually exchanged money.

And oh... my... god... if a good game pops up on CL for a low price? The FCB starts within 5 minutes and can last a full freakin year. I hate it. Drives me absolutely batshit and ruins the hobby for me. We can't even post on CL in our area because there are FBCs out there who flag every single pinball post within minutes.

If he did you'd wipe the place out on him. Most people would. I don't expect people to cut me in on their good finds. I don't expect them to give me friend prices even if I do have a bad habit of giving friend prices to people who never call me again.

This area is particularly vicious in FBC. There are a lot of collectors here.

my craigslist notifier search is "arcade -ps2 -ps3 -wii -xbox" and it works pretty well. if you don't filter you get clogged with a lot of unwanted console packages.

On my Pinball search I just deal with the occasional console related result (ie nintendo williams hall of fame) or whatever. Too desperate for pinball machines to filter anything out there.

Theres a guy trying to sell a whole rinky dink arcade on Wilmington CL. posts every 2 weeks or so. will not sell the POTC separately or even entertain me looking at it. I also get the guy trying to sell his 5th wheel RV, on a lot in a campground with, you guessed it, a pin in the campground arcade.

Around here that "trade for a pin" post would be flagged within minutes. Three years ago I was selling a Honda Civic and had "would also trade for arcade games or pinball machine(s)" in the ad. It got flagged immediately every time I posted it until I took that part out.

I see nothing wrong with trading items, but you have to:

A: Have something worth trading

B: Expect to trade it for something of comparable value.

THEN

C: Accept the fact you aren't going to trade it for anything.

C'mon a 95 tracker? Hell that thing wouldn't pass an air-care inspection. A "Project" vehicle to boot? actual value around $300. I don't care if your (insert color book) value says 3000. I can guarantee the piece of crap pinball I would trade for it is going to need more work that your "project 95 tracker"

I've seen more than my fair share of people on CL wanting to trade their POS xbox360 arcade editions for a PS3. HEY KID! there is a very distinct difference in cost between these items, you better be ponying up some dough or throw in another xbox cause that 360arcade is about 1/2 the price of this PS3.

I can already picture kids breaking xboxes trying to solder microscopic points and tearing their hair out when things dont work. you see I am VERY patient with this. you need special kind of dedication to do this for other people. doing one jtag for yourself is different than doing it everyday with proper time management. and not a fan of 9 million questions after that..

I hate the whole notion of CL trading in general. I can see if they are open to trade as an option, but when I see a posting for a machine, and they only want stuff completely unrelated, I have to roll my eyes. The hell If I have any spare guns or motorcycles lying around to make an offer for your worn down street fighter cabinet.

Even if I did have a motorcycle that was a fair trade, it would logically be worth the $150 the arcade machine would go for. I can't imagine the guy would take a $150 complete piece of crap motorcycle. The dude is looking for something $750 or more I'm sure.
