Ok first thing's first
HI

Let me start by saying THANKS
for giving us a WEBSITE DEICATED TO ARCADE MACHINES and variables to read and now post my own Projects in ..........

Ok my names Chris or as everyone i know knows me Gizmo i added the games here due to gizmo being gone and TBH its kinda my obsesion lol :)
most fond memories of days/years gone by of hours playing karatechamp ye ar kunfu mr do anything onwards from 1978 since there its covered every set of games consoles since yah almost the start and that covered all the computers from earliest commodore Pet  super gulp at showing age  i guess ive been there lived the days spent the beer money in those days it was the sweet/school bus fair money lmao :D and played more than my fair share of games inbetween somewhere ide say in the figure of about 10000 games give or take a few :D and my Xbox360 collection at present is a little shy of 800 ALL ORIGINALS pics to proove haha so i can happily say the games bit suits :)
Anyways i can always add stupid annidotes inbetween the yackety yack of banter :) and Pics yes Pics i got a Lot of PICS and altho i can up them here i need to fathom how to put them in the right areas inbetween type :)
NOTE TO SAINT haha

Ok
CONCEPT VENOMAME
Where did it come from ?????
Well to be frank The name came from looking at the way i bought the kit
And the way its gonna bite me in the @55
Also its my side idea art and stereotypical MAME added or in this cse just the AME part lol or it would be VENOMMAME doesnt roll of the toungue like VENOMAME lol
SO heres what i did BEING STUPID !!!!!!!!!!!!!
ya ˙ou guessed it straight of the BAT hes used the S Word
BEING STUPID i bought a what i thought to be a complete arcade cab ide seen what his pic showed me and thought ok that would do i guess it was supposed to be a wecade clone of sorts but not anyways
The price was reasonable 30 + postage at 10 ide use the pound sign but this kboard dont have one nope american gamers kboard lol but as us brits like to say
It was 40 quid total he was actually local to me and had i been driving ide of drove to get it lol
Not sure it will show fingers X let me know if it doesnt :)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160772534642?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
as you can see looks ok seems pretty complete yah ????????
2 days later it arrived yay Very well packed lots of bubblewrap for later usage and well it was handled well .
So next Iopened it ya y note gap between the a an y excitement lowered lol
Anyways Pics this is what i got Various pics of the kit
Now take into concideration this guy sells or DID sell a few on ebay
Andthis was supposed to be pretty complete yet assembeld had choice of sent to me assembled add another 10 to cost or he would flatpack it
:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :timebomb:
As you can see from the link Or pics :) so i decided to grab a screwdriver and some short screws and it was then that i started to notice the horrors or small hurdles ahead
i hope you see descriptions for pics explains all
top bottom marquee and control panel
ok sod it screwdriver lets piece this puzzle out
2 sides attached loose monitor 15" compliments from bro

hmmmm

now as you can see unless your a guy/gal kiddy sized this truelly cant be righ ???? Can IT ????
So by now ive tried screwing all the parts together even contacted the guy again regarding the way he put his together
and again he assured me m8 its complete

so i managed to get something resembling an arcade cab yay speakers seemed to fit great all lined up not so bad but as you can see its far from complete let alone PERFECT !!!!

Hang on aghhhh he said would fit a 15/17/19" this is a 17 now in there and GAH!!!!!

whys it over the sides like that

Grrr so as i looked at the machine and getting my other parts sent from my bro including the little amp below :)
a 19"monitor, drill press, heck it was a basket weighing 25kg of assorted goodies :D
so in no particular order some variable pics and believe me i took it from one way well you can see yourself lol

trying a different apraoch :)

ok looks ok but thats a 17"not the 19 i wanted ??
and also if you hadnt guessed i dropped it
so now the base is the back and the back is the base??
maybe i misunderstood maybe THATS why the guy cut out 5 x holes lol yeah thats gotta be it REALLY erm no !!!!!!!!

so anyways skip about 1 mth in time loads of tools arriving at this point compliments E-Bay will provide links where i can when i can

the controller came in at a WHOPPING 130 quid
it was cheaper for me to get the adapters from america and have them send them lots of probs in that respect will maybe explain more at latr date :)

So as you can tell at this point the projects taking a turn for the worse !!!!!
But me being me cant stand for it i got standards ya know lol
So i took myself to my local woodyard
where i purchased
2 x 8 x 4 3/4 mdf
1 x 8 x 4 1/2 mdf

and a So a 3 day wait turned into a week my order was prelost resent to a different address and other mixups :S
so in that time i spent more time looking at the assembled erhum resembling arcade cab lets just see what i CAN do with this :D
As you can already tell this is more the test piece my DUMMY RUN as you wish :D or as well call If it can go Wrong Its better Now then on the final Run :)
after more measuring yah this time i grabbed the tape measure !!!!

WTF i mean see item http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160772534642?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649  again he didnt mention this :S
but as ide only paid 40 it was a case of swallow pride and utilise this as the biggest can you make it workable :D

check out those SEXXY FEET oh yah solid more solid than the build at this pont and the only bit im proud of 2 quid for the 4 wasnt bad :D

speakers sat in the marquee area but whats with the pyramid top bit "scratch head lol

another view but as i stated before whats with all those holes and the insert abletive here crappy white bodge job :S
The more i looked at it the more it annoyed me but heck
Perceverence !!!!!

So eventually after many many MANY days of bad weather ill health and accidents i managed to come up with a kind of compromise !!!!!
And this is where i need some well erm ADVICE !!!!!
As you can see ive allready rebought wood and bits its all in storage ie shed keeping safe fingers xxx
but its enough for my OTHER projects yah this isnt a one shot deal i got a lot planned :D need to kill time
Being a carer to my mother who has bowel cancer is taxing to say the least this is my Hobby/stress release mech :)

Will add my ideas later too much too fast cant do that youll ney come back lol
did i remind you to bring coffee haha pause and grab another

NOW :)

back to the topic
ok so as said after hours of messing about i came up with a compromise
Please excuse my makeshift workbench yah the bed lol
I dont own a massive garage/basement or anything else :( And uk weather is well a LITTLE unpredictable rain rain/snow hail RAIN !!!!

loads of room kinda liking this

added a laminate floorboard as width example for control pannel oooh loving that :D
THE DEPTH NOT THE laminate idea altho will make an awsome template :) and a great test piece for button/joy placement

monitor lines up really great im feeling happier :)

cut some plastic splash back it was a bit in the shed FITS perfect WOW

Side view awsome its fitting and doing what i want loads of room for bezel plexi
Time for a celebration drink yup MORE COFFEE lol

all squared up and back pic for art/render later :) and yah those splits are really bad :S screwing mdf one of the hardest things to do right :)
Remember i DIDNT make those holes/splits they were there when i bought it

and above all the final part FOR now the top :)

Now heres the thing look at those last few pics and heres where i need advice :)
im happy with the monitor 19"fits level and snug with the bottom marquee top
giving me loads of clearance under for the motherboard / usb adapter / power strip / ps / and room to wiggle :)
there may be an easier way to actually work out monitor angle in perspective and i guess theres room to bring it down a little and raise it at bottom towards panel
But What im Mainly concerned about is Where to stick my speakers/ and sort a marquee speakers are 2 small cubes may look into removing these but there great as is
Bought all 5 of the cubes at less than 2 quid each again BARGAIN see pictured aswell as 2 throwaways my bro sent me with mini amp :)

I can cut reammend this if a plan comes together to make things look a lot more planned :)

So really im after a way to work out my monitor angle and placement :)

If you have an idea as to where i can re-amend this and put the monitor at correct angle can you do me example pics PLEASE
So this is where im stuck
is it ok to not have a marquee :S
You can see ive got an obscure triangle top but might be some room to SQUEEZE a marquee in i thought about heck i wont say what i thought IDEAS PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PPS if you hadnt noticed i went back and re-ammended my first post :) when it goes to a  new page ill replace this and we can continue hahaha

Taking a break with fiancee this weekend lots happening soon none good :(
So comments and help please :)
Trying to move forward
But stuck into reverse :)

ok ok sneek peek render artwork :P
basic render
left or right side or both
ya i enjoy messing with photoshop :)
This is my Right side :D
Basic color schme as you can tell is red and black
I have 22 chrome edged led red buttons "ültracabs"

2 x zippy joysticks bit clicky but not TOO bad : theres mods to make these more useable :D will attach mod notes if and when i do this :)

got off e-bay 4 quid with delivery BARGAIN led too bonus

still working on things need help with vectors/so forth and a quotte for vinyl prints :)
BTW the VENOMAME is all based from these aswell :) ooooh SHINNY love em and yes i have 20 of these :D
Got them at the right price and well look spider/alien themed :)

Note to self keep it Clean lol and Try yup Try to add punctuation haha THANKS :D

Ola Bro  :D I have 12 Packs of Millicano in the cupboard but you would have to come and get them  :laugh2:

I guess you was right and will have a machine built and working before I even get a piece of wood cut.

Anyway for the photos you can upload them here, http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=103207.0

Then you can just insert image links linked to the original attachment.

To attach a file to a post you just click additional options and then use the attach option.

So to reiterate, open above thread and insert attatchments (Images, Max 8 Per Post so you may need to make multiple posts in that thread)
Then you can happily type away in this thread and do an insert image, (Open other thread in separate window, you can use right hand click and copy link location) Paste the shortcut in between the img command boxes and the image will come up as the full sized image.  There is a way of doing it as a thumbnail but I canna remember how to do that currently.  Although you can change the sizes once posted by editing the post and changing the img width and height sizes.

and punctuation whats that ok ill try :)
So anyway back to ammending and continuing where im at :)
WoW da old man thanks its going to be a curve ball build i guess to get me ready for the main objectives :)
and cheers greg i hope in the end this thread will show that nothing is perfect and theres always room to redesign/re-amend any of the designs you choose :)
it should also show that there are many ways to addapt and get things to where it WORKS
I have the coming week to address the issues, cut my strips and start fixing in preperation for filling adapting sanding painting the insides and basically working a way to have the control panel open towards player so ease of problem solving can be done or replacing broken bits ???
as june is going to test my patience to the limits "mother cancer "fiancee major operation" various dj gigs and somewhere inbetween get some build time in :(

Sorry Bro, But the more I look at the pictures the more I come to the conclusion that you ain't getting a Marquee in there.  You could try the following though.

Drop the monitor back to the bottom and pull it to the front (Lose the bit of wood its currently sitting on,  You then start angling the monitor towards the back of the case,  See how much room you can pull back at the top. (I hope you dont have a massive Cooler to fit in there anywhere).

You would need to decase your speakers and mount them facing down.  Artwork for Marquee would have to be very short compared to width.

See the image below for what I mean, Its not to scale etc though but should give you an idea on what you can do. Basically first thing is to cut the great pyramids of never going to work design wise off the thing and make sure the top is flat, The problem you are going to have here is that the curve runs straight into the base of the pyramid with no room to play.  As such The image below assumes that you will be losing about 2 centimetres from your curve and in reality the top will not be totally flush with the front of the bottom of the marquee, it would be set back a few cm.

To be honest I think you really are better off just cutting new sides out with the height etc designed round the 19" Monitor rather then trying to squeeze it into a box designed for a 15/17.

See Termin8ors MK Build for what should have been done by the original builder :)  (You can see how the Pyramid comes into play with that build, although the angles on yours are all wrong for it). http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=105527.0

Have to agree with Drnick, forcing a marquee in there is gonna be tough.  Re-cutting some new sides would be the best option.

Screwing screws into mdf: yeah that is a real pain in the asbestos.
I always select a drill bit pretty close to the same diameter as the shaft of the screw (the part that the thread wraps around), then drill a hole into the mdf the depth of the screw, usually that keeps from splitting the mdf with the screw, but 1/2" mdf is a lot less forgiving than 3/4". Remember wood glue is your friend, I have found it holds better than screws on MDF, but sometimes you gotta use screws to keep the joint tight until the glue sets. Some angles are very hard to clamp.

The holes in the back: you need holes to let the hot air out, but most people will use a fan in the bottom or top to pull air in, then one hole in a less conspicuous place to let the air out.
If you want to plug the holes you can, if you have a hole saw with the same inside diameter as the holes outside diameter, you can cut out plugs and glue them in the holes. Or you can cover the holes with laminate, or you can keep the holes for ventilation but cover them on the inside with black screen wire. (The stuff you can buy to repair the screens on the windows of your house).

Man that artwork is rocking!

yeah yesterday was an awsome progress day : And thanks da old man the concept was easy and artwork complimentary :)
And ive got something really cool in works for your project Regarding artwork and such Oh did you want a trackball on the control panel on hers ???
and today ill be at it again :P Gotta take advantage of the HOT HOT weather and i mean HOT lol im 1/2 a lobster haha must turn to right side so it can match up lmao :)
Anyhow back to yesterday It was a full on progress day :)
So taking on board what people had said i decided to strip the cabinet apply some battons on the bottom to gain some extra support and get the project moving again :)

then it was time to address the monitor support this is trickier than youde expect normally good if you have 2 sets of hands :)

It all lined up with the pencil outline for monitor things are progressing again yeehaa lol
Sorry heatstroke lmfbo :)

Attached monitor to shelf using the easy mounting template :) i just took an a4 piece of paper placed on rear and pinholed the screwholes
then drew diagonal lines to get me a X reference for lining up on the shelf :) as you can see :)

At this point i was feeling confident alls good ,
yeah right so much for FEELING GOOD that soon changed lol if you hadnt noticed the blocks are on the back :)i screwed it into the cabinet all went well altho it was tricky it was done :)
OR so i thought i then checked my lineups and it was then i realised the error of my ways :S ide put the shelf on backwards Damm Damm DAMM !!!!!
Inbetween this i forgot to mention that the first screw attempt wasnt working due to the lack of screw depth !!
So i took a long walk to my local hardware store with the monitor screw in my mouth didnt want to loose it lol :)
So at hardware store we tried to locate a match after 3 open boxes we found a perfect match pic later
It was a M4 1  inch Perfect
as ussual you never buy just 1 thing, So i also bought some screw heighteners there basically a metal ring for the screw to go through normally used for materials and such yet this gained me enough so the screws wernt going to go through the mdf :)
Alls on track again and they look really good so of course i bought 5 packs :) 40 in a pack cost 1 quid each
i also bought some white rubber feet some more black rubber feet i call them feet they were doorstops :) but really solid :)
total EXTRA cost 38 quid yah i went c c crazy on screws fixings and all because i needeed the bolts i also found some bolts that should work for the joysticks :)
So anyways back i walked basking in the glorious sun :)
so i reammended the shelf putting it in the way it was intended going well :)

yup quick pic of the weather and the 4 hr cigarete i found they last forever like this lol and yup i even cought the sun too haha :)
success after a few tweeks :)
now onto working out my lines for the marquee my prob --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- was not knowing what area i had :(

very chuffed with myself ide overcome a lot of hicups but its resembling a cab now pats self on back and goes to make a celebratory coffee :D

front view pretty happy with this can still get some better angles and enough room for marquee and speakers HOPEFULLY lol :)
So after messing about i had a sudden panic attack Oh no quick rush to bedroom and grabbed the motherboard and graphics card and mounting board ill be using :S

So i decided to see how it all sat within the unit ,YeeHaaa it was close i mean a PENCIL distance Close lol :) and i eyeballed it all :)

From front and theres loads of clearance tonnes of space loving it as much as i could haha
PERCEVERENCE prevails
It was then i decided and grabbed the back pannel yah with the olympic hole structure :)

reammended the top shelf prefix spitballing ideas
Oh can anyone give me a simple way to create a joining angle ie top shelf to door its kind of \ i need to remove ??????
seee attached :)

i know how to straight the top shelf back join with router also i need to round the top front :)

It was then i noticed something :)

is that a FLUKE or just Luck heck im not complaining at either lol :P gives me an option for dvi to hdmi PERFIK :P

so with that and a few more tweeks i ended the day with an extremely red right side body and an emergency :S Way too much pain :(
2 weeks ago i was admited to hospital with an emergency In no uncertain ways i managed to rupture what NO man should EVER be able too :(
This was  :censored:  :censored:  :censored: yah the most painful experience EVER
feel free to insert arcade punjokes i know im in need of some humour !!!!
Anyhow day was done happy well happy all be it the upload times for photobucket are atrocious i finally got to bed a little after 4 am this morn   :S
Oh yah an i got FACEPALMED  in the oposing thread :banghead: "http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=108719.0"
heck i shoulda ducked haha
So i purchased this last night :D http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150759080655

and onto today yawns swigs coffee checks photobucket yay finally they uploaded haha so here i am ON top of that i got deliverys OOOOOHhhhh !!!!
lots of goodies :D

1 pacdrive from ULTIMARC ordered last friday arrived today registered mail awsome

Aswell as 2 x red happ buttons ill be using for the pinball buttons :) yup no point wasting led chromefits on those hee hee :)

AND these :)

2x450w Shark car speakers with a HIDDEN bonus not going to spoil the twist :D ill leave that for when i wire them up and video them :P
Its just a Shame i dont want to put these in the machine well maybe i will,it would fit with the theme but not the color :(
im unsure got a lot to think about color coordinations and such :S hmmm ill think about it :)

And OMG more goodies lol

iddybiddy reset swithches 2 quid for all those better to stockup rather than wait again for them :)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150503120789?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
got some plain black vynil no matter what its handy and the price was right :D came well packaged rolled in a tube nice touch :)
Better condition than the 3d car vynil i have thats creased to kingdomcome but hey they say it can be removed with a hairdryer and squeedgy ill put that to the test soon enough :)

and finally ....

whats this a box of non edible quavers lol

my Interactive YODA yup its face off time GIZMO vs YODA lol yup i got a gizmo one years ago so want to see them interact hahaha :)

So anyways im heading back out cabinet in hand so i can rework the top marquee area/speakers and Bask in the sun
ill probably do some penceling for where ill reamend the sides to make it more fluid with the ammended top "probably involve use of the jigsaw "
and apart from work on my left side UNTANNED from yday it should help to stop worrying about things.....
Just as a heads up Im going to be away for a few days fiancee is in hospital nothing good all in preperation for next weeks major operation :(, and altho ide like to be working on the cab i think shes MORE important :(

Looking good man!
About cutting angles so two panels match up:
I am not very good at that at all, but I try to use a protractor to get the angle I need then set it on my table saw.
It usually doesnt match up perfect, but I try to use narrow sections if that panel needs to be removed. The narrow section stays in place but it mates up straight with the removable panel. I then fill in any gaps between the two fixed angle cut pieces with wood putty or bondo.
Im sure there are more experience people on here that can give you an easy tip. Have you checked out the wood working forum?
