Sound lag problem: AMD E350 Zacate
« on: April 30, 2012, 09:21:18 pm »
Not sure if this is the best forum or even website to post this question, but forgive me, i'm new here…

I'm building a bartop and bought an ASUS E35M1-I Mini ITX, thinking that would be more than enough computer, considering I only wanted 1980's MAME vertical games, with a few early 90s thrown in.

I got everything running on Tiny XP Rev09, with MALA FE etc. But when playing, the sound gets further and further delayed as time goes on.  For example in Ms Pacman, after several minutes, the sync gets bad enough that you can eat 5 dots before you hear the sound of the 1st one being eaten. Gets to be a second or more of lag/delay.

Has anyone else experienced this and have a solution?  I'm pulling my hair out trying to fix it…

Additional details:

It's the same with MAME (145) launched from command line. I've turned off waitsync/syncrefresh/triplebuffer. But I don't think it's a MAME-specific problem, since it does the same thing in VisualPinball.  I've tried the latest ASUS drivers for the mobo from their site, and also tried newer drivers for the vid card and sound card from VIA and AMD.

All the FX are turned off on the VIA control panel.  Sound is going out of the mobo to normal powered computer speakers.

I've got 4GB of Kensington 1333 DDR3 in it.  I notice now that the box for the mobo says "2 x DDR3 1066/800 Mhz. max 8GB". Could that be the problem? But the manual lists a bunch of 1333 rams on the QVL.

PSU is a FSP Group 220W Mini ITX

Anyone have any suggestions?  I have no idea what to try next to resolve this…

try briging the samplerate to 22 instead of default 44/48.

Yeah i've messed with all the sound settings (and more) in the MAME config, doesn't seem to change anything.  And like I said, it does the same thing in Visual Pinball, so it's probably not MAME itself.

Is everyone using ATOM mini-itx's in their bartops, or has no one else had similar problems with an AMD mini-itx?
strange…

I just built a bartop using the a8 amd proc which is the same chipset albeit faster, but I had no issues at all with the onboard sound.you may want to try a budget usb sound card, they are relatively cheap and may just fix the problem.
