My understanding is that you have to pay for Hyperspin.... does anyone know how much it is in USD?  Is that a lifetime membership?

Hyperspin is free but they do accept donations to cover their costs.  Just register and download from http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/downloads.php.

If I build a powerhouse of a system I'll run HS but with my cheap ass using $23 CL computers I love me some MALA.  Hmm, is there a HS skin out there for MALA?

I'm running it on an old core 2 Duo e6750 that OC'd to 3GHz.  It runs like a champ on a 5 year old system.

I dont like the way Mala switches between the lists... most likely because I didnt make my own custom layout.  I have seen Hyperspin use that spin that allows u to start by picking the emulator.... then go into the list for the games.

Does the free version allow music?
Does the free version allow that spin start with emulator selecting?

-  I dont want to spend hours setting up a new front end if its not going to do these things :)L:)

I just switched from Maximus arcade to Hyperspin. And I dont think I'll go back, unless I build another with lower PC specs. Hyperspin is FREE but if you want better downloading options for the artwork then you will need to pay. With all the time I saved I think its worth it. Also if you want to use the movies with all the games you will need to pay at EmuMovies.

I think the best part is the hyperlaunch!

Hyperspin all the way,  Runs OK on a dual core athlon 2600 (or something around that speed). Once again I can confirm that the software is entirely free.  But you can donate to running costs and get access to their FTP which makes getting things a whole lot easier.

Oh yes I can also confirm that once you start with the setting up of Hyperspin you will be a while, especially if you go all crazy and want all the emulators all setup with videos, images, sounds, custom screens and the like.  I think my HS setup is now somewhere around 40GB without any roms.

That's far from your typical 5 year old system though.

Ill dare to say, if you cant even download hyperspin for free, then dont bother, because you will need to do alot of reading and downloading, its not just a magical front end that will setup everything by itself.

Ive been setting this up myself.  yes..definitely free, but there are certain files you'll need from their ftp..which you will only get access to if you make a $25 "donation".  So you might as well donate.

Setting this up takes quite a while, as others said.  If using HyperLaunch 2.13, you'll be using the ahk modules for each system.  The single biggest problem with some of these modules are the instructions, which are not written for the average pc user to follow.  I have found that their forums are not especially helpful.  This one guy who's name I wont mention, always just says "instructions are at the top of the module".  lmao.  great way to help out the donors!

But all-in-all, I'd say its worth it.  It's a great front-end.  I've got around 60 emulators and most of their complete rom sets, wheels and vids up and running.  This beast weighs in at about 1.5tb :applaud:

As i encourage people to donate to get their hyperspin stuf on their ftp , it is also true that there are tons of downloads from other sites that you can get  the themes from.

Donating wont warranty you that you always gonna get help, specialy if the help  you look for its just a matter of reading on the hyperspin syte, REMEMBER you are donating so the hyperspin project gets updated by BBB and like a way to say thanks,YOU ARE NOT PAYING for a service. (Maybe the ftp service) but not for the HS site members to serve you just because you donate.
I did download the themes from the hyperspin site, but most of my setup i downloaded an allready done HS setup from a torrent site, for free. Emus,Roms,Themes, vids, they where allready to go. but i did had to mess with the Hyperlaunch 2.0 myself and it wasnt that bad at all. instructions where easy to find and follow.

PS: Pardon my bad grammar.

Topdawgg - yeah just dive in man. lol.  It'll be worth it when you have it up and running.  yes...install Hyperspin 1.0 first, then the 1.2 update.  For the update, just overwrite the original files with the ones in the update.

abispac - I'm glad you realize your grammar sucks.  I finally got through what you wrote and just want to let you and others know that I never said or implied that a donation is payment for help on the forums. I know this is not so.  All I meant was that I have not found the forums to be especially helpful.  It's a great site and an amazing project.  I was simply voicing my opinion about my own experience with the forums.   I'm sorry if what I wrote is something you took out of context.   That bit about not getting much help was more of a joke.  You'll notice I wrote "great way to help out the donors".  I did not write "great way to serve the donors".   If your reading skills are anything like your grammar skills, I can see why you misunderstood what I wrote.  So it's okay.  I forgive you.

I'm running HyperSpin on an old Dell Dimension 4100 with a 1 GHz P3 processor and 512 MBs of RAM  :D

I've got XP SP2 installed with all services/processes turned off that I absolutely don't need for running MAME or HS.  I've cofigured HyperSpin to have most of the fancy transitions and such disabled, sticking to only one wheel (for MAME), and the game art and some intro animations for the games I'm running.  It takes HS a bit to load initially, but once up it runs fine, and launches my games successfully.  I pretty much am running older 80s games. I've also got a couple of 90s fighters that play well, although sometimes the sound in those games is choppy.  I may upgrade to 1 GB of RAM, but eventually I'll get a newer machine.

Ok got Hyperspin setup today but I have a few questions.

"Is there anyway to make hyperspin use snapshots instead of the videos?  There is just no way I am going to have time to download 1600vids."
hmm i just found the answer to this question but it appears that all snapshots must be in png format lol... SIGH.  So i need to rename all the jpegs to png files....

Also, Hyperspin is showing every rom available in Mame and not just my 1600 games... is there a setting I am missing?

Thanks for the info.

you can actually download all the titles for mame from emumovies for free if im not mistaken. they are in the right format for HS. far as just the roms you want to be shown. i would suggest you get dir2xml you point it at your rom directory and it makes the xml file HS uses for its list. tho i did seem to lose alot of info from my list when i did that like year released and other extra tidbits but the names and the games was correct. maybe i did something wrong or missed a step that would of kept it but no big deal to me for it to be missing.

I use the EmuMovies Download Service Utility and I downloaded all the MAME flash movies in about 10 mins. Snaps only take a couple of mins. I did pay a yearly subscription though. I think it was worth it. I know have all my emus stocked with everything.

I am assuming there are some that are not supported?  I have no problem paying 20bucks for a 1month subscription.

Also, do all the movies/vids work with mame 0.145?  Can I download them all at once after I get the subscription?

From what I can see the full set for mame @ emumovies is using the 144 naming not the 145.  I would say that 99.5% of the files would work without any changes and the other .5% would need the names changing.

For the images you could probably find a batch converter software to convert from jpg to png.

Also for the games list you can have a look at the following.
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=118589.0

As to downloading them all at once.  If you donate you get access to the FTP. You can then use FTP software to download from their FTP site. so you could queue up everything that you wanted to download and then start them all at once. Alternatively use the download utility.  For me FTP was easier.

The Download utility scans your Roms and creates the videos needed.

Once you pay and download it, its pretty self explanatory, You can browse multiple emulators and download snaps, box art, movies etc. You may want to check out FatMatch for renaming any files (art, videos) it is very quick and will save ample amount of time.
