the new me
« on: September 26, 2011, 07:27:48 am »
My health has did a great jump for the better.
weight down to 175 lbs
total weight loss 75 lbs

I no longer drink beer .
I no longer drink tea
I only drink water and 2 Gatorade a day also 2 cups of coffee each day

fat free diet p90x fat shredder

working on tobacco. This one is very blanking HARD!
by far the hardest crutch to kick off down to 8 to 10 a day

beer I thought would be imposable
not that hard really. I just had to get in the mood.
I was up to 24 beers a night. Ice beer. (2x the alch.) (6%alch)
switched to light beer. 3%
winged down to 12 a night.
winged to 6 a night
winged to 3 a night
winged to 1 a night
the 0 since laborday weekend.

I gave up tea because of the caffeine I hear it makes it hard to lose fat
there is some bad effects.

The food you loved. I can no longer stand the taste of. Ice cream
Just plain nasty!
sweet tea+= Nasty
any thing with fat= nasty
I really mean nasty. I have tried to cheat on this diet. I can not. I have been fat free in my diet to long.

WARNING!!!! grocery bill is out of the roof!
try $300 a week at Kroger or walmart . eating healthy is costly.

I hope to figure out how to get cost down. This is still new to us and we are shopping in isles I would never look at before. Also all that weight has to go some place. It must exit.
I am thinking the medical cost will go down. So food bill will not bother me so much.

Wife and daughter has had serious medical conditions (hospital stays )
The girls just could not go on there own. Not a problem any more.

a normal day diet menu
up at 3:30 am
2 cups of coffee
2 slices of wheat toast with small amount of peanut butter

7am no fat yogurt and a fruit ( I really tried the plain yogurt 2 big tubs of it! NASTY as all get out!) I never ever ate yogurt before so I did cheat and switched to Yoplait light fat free. good stuff!  :afro:

9am a protein bar and a Gatorade

11:30 lunch time
a wheat bread sandwich (chicken breast or turkey breast) raw spinach
TIP ( My wife sneaks this into every dinner ) It cooks into nothing really.
(sure makes you go potty!)
mustard is OK. NO Mayo or Ketchup .
no fat cottage cheese
8 oz of 1% milk ( I started the milk about 2 weeks ago) (lunch was not working out well. Milk helps fill me up or gets rid of a craving
( yes a craving fill like hunger to me)
also I am thirsty all the time... I drink  maybe 2 gallons of water a day.

2pm a snack. most the time it is a fruit. or a energy bar
energy bar = another cheat .
If you fallow the guide in the P90X  plan I am at all protein diet.
Problem no energy left. crash and burn for me. I sneak in Gatorade 2x a day and a  energy bar 2 or 3 times a week

3:30 drive home
string cheese

dinner 6pm
3 oz pork tender loin (sound small? not really)
2 sides vegies
1 starch

late night snack
protein shake.

mix the menu up for what works for you. your body will tell you what it wants.

Dude you were drinking 24 beers a night?!  :o I think your grocery bill probably pales in comparison to your booze bill!

Glad to hear that youre doing well though! Careful about the being thirsty all the time, that leads to diabetes. Trust me, I know. Thats how I found out that I had it. Dropped a bunch of weight, got super thirsty at night, went to the doctor, then bam. They told me I had diabetes.

Keep kicking ass though!  :applaud:

eating healthy is costly.

Eating healthy takes more time, but is not costly.
Just buy the right stuff (read: stuff closest to the way it grows). OK, bread may be made by a baker, baking is too time expensive.

He didn't post it this year but in the past daywane has posted pics of his large garden.  Nothing beats home grown fruits and veggies.

I kind of figured some thing like that. I had a hint smack me between the eyes not so long ago.
I was still winging off beer.  I think I was down to 3 a night. I was standing up. hands on the dinning room chair. BOOM I was drunk??! I needed help to the shower . Wife looked at me and asked how many beers did you drink?
2
I went to bed at 5:30 pm and slept till 3:30am and felt fine.

That was the kicker on the beer.  I went 1 a night till I ran out of beer.

Thanks for the heads up .  I was wishing to put off a doctor visit till March.
I Know a long time off. I can not do the P90x exercises . I can not keep up .
so I am walking and chin ups, sit ups, push up. till I can even do the work outs. I know sad.  but true I need to get healthy to get healthier.

Welcome to the party pal!

I'm going on stage 4 cannot wait to get to my goal of 180.

120 lbs is a killer to lose - you have to learn to stay the course and win the gold medal. Silver is for chumps.

I drink Starbucks House Blend like 5 cups real strong (like syrup).  Makes the day much brighter!   ;D

Congratulations Daywane! Proud of you man!
Since I have grown older, I find it is much harder to loose weight. A few years ago, if I wanted to drop 10 pounds I could do so in just a few weeks by simply dropping a few beers or a couple of snacks.
Aint that easy anymore.
I got up to 217 lbs (5 ' 8"), and have been fighting all summer and am down to 201.
I would like to get down to my old weight of 180 (which is still a little over for my height, but I can live with it), but it is hard, so I admire your work man.
Maybe I will try the diet you are on.

24 beers...Ho...Lee...Crap...

Always inspiring to hear of a person dropping the pounds the old-fashioned way by actually working at it.

The real fight isn't what you just what through, but keeping it off.  The weight roller coaster is hell on your body.  Though you sound like it is going to be relatively easy sailing since you can't stand fatty, cholesterol-filled foods.

For lunch during the work week, I used to eat Hungry-Mans along with a pack of six 6 cheesy type crackers (those Lance things like in the vending machine), snack pack pudding, and a can of pop (sometimes two if it's really hot).  I've switched the crackers to a piece of fruit, cut down to one pop at most, kept the pudding, and the Hungry-Man is now generally something smaller, usually a 10 oz size TV "dinner", like the Healthy Choice steamers...the Asian inspired ones are fantastic to me.  I could eat all of the prior setup, but the point was I didn't need to.  Still about 155 at 6'2".  I also work in a warehouse, lots of moving around, so that's probably one reason I can get away with this.
I'll exercise patience when you stop exercising stupidity.

Congrats.

Ive also gave up most fats, and find most fatty foods disgusting.

However, I find it hard to believe that Tea is bad for you.  Asians have been drinking it non-stop for thousands of years, and they look +10 yrs younger than people in the west at the same age.  Tea has less caffeine, and unlike coffee, its not roasted to cinders (which almost seems like it would be carcinogenic)   They also say that Tea is rich in anti-oxidants, which help keep cells youthful.

Also, I believe that caffeine cases the metabolism to speed up, which burn off calories faster.

Personally, I cant drink Coffee black, and now that Ive gotten more allergic to dairy, Tea is the best alternative for me.

Also, I highly recommend Almond Milk.  Its a great no-fat alternative to milk, which has higher calcium, and taste great.  Silk brand is best IMO.  If you like it as a snack, get the vanilla or chocolate versions.  If you want it more like typical milk taste, get the regular version.

Have to agree on the Tea thing, Tea is way lower in caffeine than coffee, some people don't react well to Tannin in tea (not found in coffee) but you can get brands of Tea with low Tannin.  That said I love coffee, especially a well made Espresso (black coffee) I have one a day and leave it at that.

There's a lot of diet and lifestyle advice out there, I guess if you're getting consistent results and feeling good and can sustain your body weight for the long term then stay with with what works for you.

I'm trimming back myself with a basic goal to looking and feeling good by Christmas this year.  I'm 6'1" and about 195 pounds but aiming for around 178 pounds by then.

I got this guy's book which I highly recommend http://www.freedieting.com/abs_diet.htm .  If you can be bothered reading it, it has some of the best, well researched guidelines for eating and exercise lifestyle that I've ever seen.

One of the best things that I've gained from the book is his Power Smoothies recipe which you can zip up in a blender at Breakfast time (replaces brekky).  It's basically zero fat skim milk, zero fat yogurt, honey, instant oats, protein powder, peanut butter and ground flax seed with some ice thrown in to chill it.  Ends up like a thick shake but really good for you.  Combine that with meals including fresh fruit and vegetables and some daily exercise, works for me.

On a lighter note (pun intended) anyone trying to shed the weight could do worse than take note of Dr Rudi's special dietry secret for Women.  ;)

I failed to mention all my joins are stiff.

My joints get really painful at times.  I found out however, that it was because I have Celiac disease, which when eating wheat, causes the lower intestine to stop absorbing nutrients.

Poor nutrients, such as lack of calcium.. and things start to go downhill very quickly.   So long as I eat right, the joints are fine... along with everything else.

Other than that, do stretches often, and a little strength training of some sort.  I hear Tai Chi is excellent for things like this.  Possibly Yoga as well.

 Temp. Relief of pains:

- Soak in a tub of epson salt. I prefer baking powder, as it seemed to work better.

- Any type of menthol based cream, such as Ben Gay / Icy Hot?

- Possibly Chinese martial arts herbal conditioners called: "Dit Da Jow".  They use it topically to soak into the skin and joints.. which helps keep them more pliable, causes increased bloodflow, heals internal injuries 10x faster.

I say this, because I burst both fluid sacks in my elbows when hitting the sandbags too hard... and the doctor said I should have been in severe pains.  Id been using the Jow regularly, and though I still have full feeling in my elbows and fists,  I dont have the pains that I should have when I blew out the fluid sacks.

 - Heating Pads / Cooling Ice pack.  (causes the body to react to that area when it notices extreme temperature variations)

Good job on the weight loss.  I need to work a little harder on keeping myself fit.  I don't really drink beer (2 every couple of months maybe) and I like tea but prefer plain tea (no lemon, no sweetener.)  My main thing is working on portion control.  I can eat as much as a horse usually.  Allthough I pretty much fast walk/run for 8 hours a day at work.  Even eating like a horse I still managed to go down a couple pants sizes.

Edit:  Tobacco is a hard one to quit.  I've tried several times.  Longest run was about 6 months.

you had me think back to Sunday. My van died on I64.  6:30 AM  dark as heck. No phone.
I just started to walk home. I made it back to 127 before a coworker spotted me.

8 miles walked. Monday I felt great.
This diet I am doing was made for P90X work outs , also if I was working out with them I would be 1/2 way into stage 2
Carbs go into diet.
I think I need to hit the stretch bands

working on tobacco. This one is very blanking HARD!
by far the hardest crutch to kick off down to 8 to 10 a day

i know what you mean by quiting smoking, used to smoke 30 a day, then at the start of february i got one of them electronic cigartettes, haven't had another 'real' cigarette since, not a perfect solution as you still stay addicted to nicotine but deffo a healthier option

Reuters disagrees.

 Me too.

I dont know how anyone could conclude otherwise.  Its far cheaper to buy something loaded with fat (fat is dirt cheap), than actual healthy ingredients.

Do you actually get a buzz off those e-cigarrettes?  I've considered taking them up recreationally.

i have found them as strong as cigarettes, as in what you feel at the back of the throat, and the vapor that is reproduced is on par with all cigaretes, i would not now go back to smoking, wether or not i can stop the e-cigaretes is another story though, i basically have changed from one form of addiction to another, though the latter is definately healthier.

I have never smoked, so I admit I havent a clue, plus I dont want to change the topic, but I have got to ask, how are the e-cigs healthier?
Ive seen the commercials, and it looks like they are still putting nicotine in the body, is it just the absence of the hot smoke thing that is healthier?

Great work.   You are an inspiration.    :applaud: :applaud:  Joint pain is a drag but Glucosamine and whatever they package with it is supposed to help.  Never taken it myself.

I had some work done on the cartilage in both my knees a few years back. The dr suggested glucosamine.
I took it for about two years. It did seem to help, but it took a couple of weeks of taking it before I felt any difference.
(I think it said it would on the bottle.)
I hate taking pills, so I quit after a couple of years.
Sometimes my left knee bothers me quite a bit, I probably should start taking it again.
My main gripe is that it gets pretty expensive after a while. Its over the counter so insurance dont pay.
Sucks getting old.

any tips on joint pain relief? prefer over counter or natural.

Cod liver oil capsules. Does wonders for my knee joints (dodgy after years of Tae kwon do) and, strangely enough, when I lost a good bit of weight I also had joint pain. I was advised by a knee specialist to take whey protein after light leg exercises as it was probably a weakening of the ligaments in the knee due to the dieting rather than the joint itself. He reckons every stone you lose equals 4 stone less pressure on the joint itself so it was unlikely  inflammation or strain on the joint itself.
