Check out "Arcaze - The Arcade Retro Game Station", a mini arcade bartop of rather...uh... dubious design:

http://cgi.ebay.de/Arcaze-The-Arcade-Retro-Game-Station-Komplettsystem-/220703725648?pt=Automaten&hash=item3362f79850#ht_4520wt_1139

As far as I remember, it usually retails for around 1000 Euros, and apparently the dude already sold the first batch of ten  :lol

I thought Coleco tabletop arcade game as soon as I saw it. I think it'd be OK with a decent paint job and art that ties it together.
Kinda cool that its made of stamped steel.

As ugly as this thing is, as it says in the title the humour is largely dependent on your speaking German. Eg at one point he states that "The finished product looks easy to build, but I'm sure you can't do it as well as I did" and "the gamepads [sic] look pretty swell by now and are possibly the best on the market". You have to trust me when I say that the humour is largely lost in translation... he just sounds so sincere. Bonus points for the drawer underneath the cp and the ladies in random tartan garments.

As for the rest, I agree that if he had added at least some artwork it might have turned out decent.

It looks like the price is high for a reason?  Google translated:

Quote
+ + + The last unit sold is expected. So I've set the price high now, until the payment arrives. + + +

I honestly don't think the unit is all that ugly.  I've seen much worse sold on eBay before.  Matter of fact, I think it actually looks well designed.

And also does not include roms - so it's legit in case anyone thinks otherwise.   ;D

EDIT:  You can't make fun of a seller who promises this:

Quote
You are welcome to pick up the equipment and then you get to a coffee and a full demonstration!

I love coffee!

The first isn't too bad, it's a tolerable cab but the price is a little steep.

The second cab looks like it's more appropriate amongst those Russian cold war cabs.

Again, I've seen worse.  Okay, the buttons are spaced a little wide for my liking. But mounted against a wall, it's not terrible.

The German model I get, and it looks like a bold attempt at modern styling. I don't get the price tag at all though - is it a joke?

That French one though, simply vile. I do remember being once though someone came to us wanting a cheap Bar-Top but wanted it to look 'like a candy cab' and have a coin slot. When I said that would be difficult and look terrible, he went and bought one of these instead. I gladly stand by my words.

Re: the steep price, as somebody stated before (I think) it says in the description that he sold the complete first batch via the Ebay auction and now raised the price so that nobody would buy another one. I don't get the logic either but there you go.

As for the rest, yeah, a Candy Cab bartop is probably pretty difficult to pull off. This guy seemed to think that the colour white equals Candy Cab, though. What an atrocity... it's amazing how much talent some people have when it comes to technical stuff and wood-/ metalworking skills, but at the same time how seriously lacking they are in the design department...

I believe it's a trick used by some ebay sellers to avoid having to pay re-listing fees.

The latter one makes me think of a fast food order register turned on its back. But for a commercial unit, it's not bad....except that a small pry bar would rip it right open.
