Compiling AdvanceMAME with added sourcechanges
« on: January 19, 2011, 01:32:58 pm »
Hi guys. I have a question regarding using source from a recent MAME version using the 0.99 MAME base and implementing it in AdvanceMAME to create a DOS version with these changes.

ShmupMAME 3.0 uses MAME 0.99 and has implemented lots of fixes (to ensure low lag on the inputs) as well as backporting recent drivers (as recent as MAME 0.141) to work with the 0.99 MAME base. I want to have an AdvanceMAME for DOS with these added. Would it be possible to do?

The ShmupMAME source (and a binary archive) are available here: http://shmupmame.wordpress.com/
AdvanceMAME is still available on SourceForge: http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/readme.html

Any help is appreciated, even it only means telling me it can't be done.

He talks about AdvanceMAME, and he obviously understands the whole kit and kaboodle, so you should probably ask whether he would be interested in approaching a revisioning of AdvanceMAME.

Thanks for the reply. The current ShmupMAME build 3.0b has some issues with the PGM graphics (some sprites disappear). Not wanting to add to his workload with the bothersome process of getting AdvanceMAME to compile I've found someone that is helping me.  It's still a trial and error kinda deal, but hopefully I'll get a DOS build done sometime soon. I'll post updates here if people are interested.

I'll be interested on the progress.

As everyone who uses AdvMame, it is stuck at .106.
There was someone (site, http://x15khz etc...) was adding and updating a little of the .106 of AdvMame, but that's gone too.

As off now, my cab is happy at .106 but if there is an Update to Advmame (DOS), I'll be more than happy to tinker with it again.   ;D

There are some great Linux distros now (Groovy) I would use if I were to setup a MAME computer, as AdvanceMAME (as we all know) hasn't been updated. Why do I want to build a DOS version? Because I can get a JAMMA gamebox and have it run DOS games/emus without any installation. I just hope my plans will work and I will get a result to be happy about.  :afro:

im have a version of advance mame that can use roms >120 ish, the site mentioned by one of the previous posters
was where i got it, he did another couple of versions of advancemame , and also a vsyncmame version which works well and uses later rom sets, the mistake
he made was to not publish the source code for some reason which violates the open source thing, these would maybe have got more attention if he did,but im glad to have them anyway.

they work well for dos, and vsyncmame is very easy to use but not as config friendly,i tend to use it most tho because of ease of use(im lazy).
