Favorite Halloween Themed Arcade Games
« on: October 20, 2010, 04:13:51 pm »
Well it's that time of the year again.   :applaud:

The annual FlashIV and soon to be Mrs. FlashIV Halloween party.

What I want to know is what are some of your favorite Halloween/scary themed arcade games?  I have plenty of other games in the cab, plus the standard Ghosts 'n Goblins and Ghouls 'n Ghosts.  Although if you really like a non-Halloween game, feel free to mention it too.

Thanks for the great games so far.  Heard of a few of them, but not most.  One thing the list make me realize is I need to add 2 guns to my cab.     More money  :lol  But I wouldn't have it any other way. :laugh2:

Give him tattered pants and boots. Otherwise it looks like a bodybuilder top stictched onto a skater's bottom.

LOL again! I just noticed the boxer shorts peeking out the top. Nothing says "bad ass serial killer" like an LA skate punk body builder. LOL

But, Rick Taylor was just that - a punk-ass kid when Jennifer went missing and he donned the Hell Mask. (I prefer that more than the 'Terror Mask'.)

What no mention of CARNEVIL yet?!?!

That's the game I leave on during my halloween party.

I also like to play this song a couple times:

Ugh, I'm so unprepared this year.

Thanks to everyone so far, and because of you guys I have found some more that are Halloween/scary/gory themed.  Keep those suggestions coming in. :notworthy:  Here are some I have found.

Mutant Fighter (Also called Death Brade WTF?  :dunno) (Hard to play or I just suck  :banghead:)
Death Race (although this one is really stretching the theme)
Death Smiles (although I can't find the ROM, that is IF I were looking that is  :laugh2:)
Demon Front (haven't tried it yet)
Demon Castle (no ROM goodness for this one too )

BadMouth, yeah this is probably my least "prepared" year.  I didn't think Carnevil worked in MAME or was too slow.  Hmmm I am going to have build those guns I see.

Sorry if it's a tad late.. but "Monsters World" 1994, It's more or less Buster Bros. / AKA Pang! but with monster theme.. It's pretty neat hack.

Quote
Monster World is nothing but a bootleg of Super Pang. TCH had taken Super Pang, decrypted it, reworked the game code a bit (adding various patches), designed their own hardware based on the Super Pang hardware with some modifications, and added their own protection. By redesigning all the graphics and sound it didn’t look like Super Pang anymore, but it was. TCH had successfully created a new game simply by hacking away at an existing popular title from Mitchell. A quick compare of the game code confirmed this.

Thanks to all that helped, and even thanks to all those who didn't help.   :laugh2: :applaud:  The party was as usual a big success.  The arcade cab was such a hit this time, I didn't even get a chance to play myself.    :hissy:  I will definitely look into Monsters World and Ghoul School for next year's party.  Cotton went over well esp. with the girls.  I know that next year I will put the same question to the community and see if anymore can be found.

Once again, thanks guys.

There was a Castlevania arcade game? Interesting.

Anyway, how about another classic: NIGHT SLASHERS

or Cave's bullet hell shooter DEATH SMILES

Night Slashers looks awesome.  Wish I had that one for the party, oh well always next year.

I tried to find the roms for Death Smiles, but death did not smile on me.   :laugh2:

I just played the first stage on my PC and it was awesome!  This is going in the cab, fulltime!

Now just to see if the Japanese roms are available.

Got to love the "translations" on some of lines.  "It's time to meet tour maker!"   :dizzy:

FYI, Deathsmiles is on the Current CAVE hardware, i.e. it won't be emulated for a long time, if ever. But you can get it region free for the xbox 360, which is pretty cool. I recommend.

Nope, the Japanese version of Death Smiles only runs on Japanese Xboxes. The US version seems screwed in terms of speed (doesn't emulate slowdown --> much more difficult, different "flow" from the arcade version). Hopefully, the soon to be released PAL version will be similar to the Japanese version. According to the European publisher, it will be, but you never know... Cave screwed up its own Guwange conversion for the Xbox...

Damn, that's the second time I mis-spoke about DS. I know that it's not region free. There is a US version and a JAP version. I of course bought the US release the day it came out because it's such an occasion to get a CAVE release in the west. I wasn't aware of the slow down issues until I heard about them from other people who have played the PCB or JAP version. I would still recommend it though because if you don't know what the original is like you won't know the difference. It will be harder, but the games gonna be hard anyway. And it's still fun.

I have to admit that I'm not a big Death Smiles fan, so I didn't care much about the removal of the slowdown... yeah, I can imagine that it doesn't really make a difference for many American players. They could've included an on/off-option without much trouble with default setting on off, of course. This way, everybody would have been happy.

ive got a question. is there something out there where you can play around with the symphony of the night engine, similar to thingy and tile layer for the nes?

those two tools right there, would make every halloween themed game anyone could want just start appearing every year.

How about the 'Cotton' series?

only two problems here. cotton is cool, but just too kiddy for me. also ive never gotten it to run on anything except my STV.
