That's not going to happen especially since HyperSpin doesn't own the videos.  The videos are done by Emumovies.

Even without the videos and boxart, id just love to get a game running. Just one. Why cant this program just scan your rom folders and make a list from that like mala. I have pretty much complete rom sets for everything, but this damn frontend refuses to load anything.  :banghead: after 12 hours of looking through the hyperspin help, forums, and just generally trying stuff out, Im gonna stick with mala for now, at least that works.

I tried Hyperspin a long time ago before I found out about Maximus Arcade because it was free.  I ended up paying for Maximus Arcade and no regrets whatsoever.  The only thing I can tell you is that make sure your theme files and rom zip file names match exactly.  Once you HS setup properly all you have to do is back up the database and media folder and you can easily replicate your setup.  I know this works cause I have done the same thing on my HTPC in the living room and my good friend I setup HyperSpin as well.  Don't give up and just keep reading these forums for tips on setup cause that is what they are here for.

Can you get mame games to work? I found it pretty easy to get mame up and running in hyperspin. The other emulators can be difficult. I have nes, snes, n64 and mame working because they're my favorites but it took a lot of fiddling. You also have to realize that hyperspin uses the no-intro style of naming games. You can google it or browse the HS forums to find more info on that. There are programs out there that can automatically rename all your roms so they will work. Are you using hyperlaunch? I found that hyperlaunch complicates things and I don't use it for mame. I had to edit a couple lines in the hyperlaunch code to get N64 and SNES working too.

It can seem like a daunting process, but there's tutorials on the website and they're very helpful answering questions. Don't give up!

This is what bothers me, why should i have to? Mamewah dos'nt require me to do this, Mala dos'nt require me to do this, So why does hyperspin? And even if i did, it seems that if i dont have all the games, they will be in the list anyway, which is even more pointless. Either make it scan my folders, or let me edit the lists manually, thats all i ask for.

NOT EVERYONE HAS FULL SETS!

And no, i cant get mame to work, My roms are way out of date (.106), Hyperspin dos'nt seem to like my version of mame, and there are 100's of games in the list i simply do not have. Why did tombstones have to shut down?

Right,

I got a new .137 full romset, complete with chds, and the whole mame video set from emumovies. Mame runs a treat now, and it all looks good. and apart from download times (128gb in under 12 hours) it took all of about 2 minutes to get working, so maybe i was a bit hasty.

However, I still need to match up my roms with the xml files that hyperspin seems to have and dos'nt want to let me change.

So please, someone tell me how i can do this. i have pretty much full sets for all consoles, but are not in the convention that hyperspin seems to like, and yes, i have searched the net. Either that, or someone please enlighten me how i can make my own XML files from my own roms.

Thanks in advance.

For Mame HyperSpins official database is up to Mame137,
you should also use Mame 137 and Mame 137 roms.
(you dont have to use it, although its preferable) if you want the maximum artwork to display.

The console databases are in No-intro and CD based consoles are in Tosec naming conventions.
(This matches the artwork naming conventions.)
The artwork naming convention has to match the rom naming convention only for the artwork to display.
They dont have to be in the formats above to run\play including Mame.
(eventually you'll want them both to match to see the artwork or why use Hyperspin at all)

For now just to get the roms to run or match your existing roms to only what you have,
Create your own database.
(Artwork wont display unless roms are using the formats above most for mame should regardless of version)
but games should run.

Do a Google search for "dir2xml.exe" (there are other database creators in the 3rd party apps section of the HyperSpin forum)
or here http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4847
-put dir2xml.exe in the folder where your roms are (for each system) and run it once in each rom folder.

It creates a (database) list called "dir2xml.xml" in your (1) rom folder and it lists every F'n thing in your directory so remove unneeded stuff beforehand.
(put the stuff back when your done if needed).
-rename  "dir2xml.xml" to "your system.xml" i.e. "Sega Genesis.xml" or "Mame.xml"
and put it in the:
\hyperspin\Databases\Sega Genesis\ -folder
or
\hyperspin\Databases\Mame\ -folder
or whichever system your working on.

Now only the roms you have, no matter what the naming convention is, will be recognized and should run.
Getting the artwork to match and display (if not in the artwork naming convention) is a whole other process.
So its best (easiest) if you start with the correct naming conventions.

Fatmatch file renaming here: http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4056
or use clrmamepro and the dat files from the Hyperlist tab on the HyperSpin site.
It is definitely a pain but well worth it!

But if you just want the games to run start there!

You sir, Are a legend!

This opens up many a possibility. I can get rid of multiples of the same games, games i will never play etc, Wonderful.

Now, can i slim out my mame list the same way? or can  i manually edit the list? I want to get rid of dupes, and all those damn mahjong games. Or, if i were to make a favorites list, can i have that show by default? I mean,  its great to have a full romset, but spinning through it is a nightmare.

Cheers again.

mame, is the same way yes,
for duplicates either maually edit out all the roms i.e. (majong) and\or to further weed out other undesireables with "romlister",
also in HyperHq you can tell it to show only games with "Themes Only" , "parents only" or "wheels only" (see attachment)
Those are probably the games you want to play anyway

For "favorites" hit the default "Z" key while in i.e. Mame or any system and you can add and remove a rom from each individual system

ok,

DIR2Xml is making me lovely files, how do i get hyperspin to read them?

I have renamed the old file in the databases folder, and replaced it with the new one, same file name, everything. now hyperspin refuses to open that system on the wheel. I cant seem to find anywhere to set a new xml file, and hyperspin total editor dos'nt seem to help and just crashes.

Im SOOO, close, yet so far.

check log.txt sounds like a bad XML file- drag it to internet explorer and it will tell you what line has an error.  edit it and fix the error.

Im not sure what database maker you are using but try a different one. The image below "database typical" is the general format of what a Good database looks like for HyperSpin. (there is a newer type version for Hyperspin 1.0 but both should work)

The database you have I'm pretty sure is not acceptable "database-bad"
(note) the bad database shows roms with the extenision .gen, there should never be an extension in the database  not .zip or others either.

also (apologies for my graphics abilities) in the "database-bad" image, all the roms I have checked are the kinds that you want to keep.
anything with, (u) [!] are the best for USA. This is Japan (j] [!]  dont know if you want those or not your preference
(eu)= europe USA
(unl)= unreleased or un liscensed

I just used dir2xml as you instructed. Any other ideas on what app would create data bases of the right type?

This program really is a lot of trouble. Im not so sure its really worth it. maybe for mame only, but all the other consoles are a nightmare  :banghead:

Where did you download your version of dir2xml from?  From looking at your database; the version you are using is not the one for HyperSpin.

Try using HyperROM2XML

Thanks Dazz I was jut getting ready to add that but you beat me to it
HyperROM2XML EX Plus Alpha http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6734

I dont seem to remember dir2xml ever creating a database like that for me.
Once you get your first console going the rest follow the same procedure and it really does get easier.
Hang with it it IS worth it!

Also if you dont want to see unwanted games and play only the best games,
you'll have to filter those out in any Front-End not just HyperSpin.

Sorry to drag this thread up.

I just want to say thanks to everyone who helped me. I now have my cab up and running mame and genesis lovely. Whilst i was setting it up i was doing it all on my laptop, now i have my j-pac back (after one hell of a saga) its running Great, and my son loves it.

But i do have a question. How do i force mame to run the games at their true resolution? I've not used command line mame in years, let alone trying to put the parameters into hyperspin.

Cheers for your help.
