I know how you feel. We had to put our dog down this year. I didn't think I would be so emotional. It was one of the hardest things I have done. Now I am worried about when it is the cats turn. :P

Sorry for your loss.

thanks.
he was only 16months old. I bottle fed him for 2 weeks.
His mom was killed by a wolf. (I wanted another dog from the same parents) come to find out his 2 other brothers were stolen.

His sister is still alive, But the lady would never part with him.

I got a new pup and am going to build a fence.
One think cool. My dog (Buck) got killed Saterday and my cat had kittens Sunday 8)
so... one is name Kcub (Buck backwards)

This post reminds me of the Twilight Zone episode where a mountain man and his dog both die in a hunting accident. The guy at the gate tells him it's heaven but the dog is not allowed in. The man wont go in without his dog. Turns out it was really hell, and when the man got to heavens gate the dog was welcomed in.
Very spiritual for the twilight zone.
If I remember correctly, the guy at hells gate later on played the Maytag Repairman in the commercials.

I ache for your loss - wish I  had a link to the poem "the rainbow bridge."  My wife - and others - would argue me down on this, but I believe you'll see your puppy again.  For as sad as that was, I also share your joy at the birth of the kittens and the addition of Kcub. :)

I sympathize with you so much...I lost my beloved Maine Coon dilute Calico kitty named Xena (and she WAS a princess) three years ago to feline AIDS and I still miss her.  She was the first cat I'd ever owned since moving in to my own home, and she was a baby.  I think of the last few weeks  of her life, when she knew she was dying, and I didn't have time to hold her I was busy with work - and it just kills me.  I have spent a lot of days praying she KNEW how much I loved her.

Last November, my mom lost her dog Bandit, a lively chihuahua poodle mix until the very end, to old age after 13 years. Because he was such a pest at times, I didn't think it'd bother me - but it's so lonely at her house now.

It's a reason why I don't want any pets anymore. I remember every cat, hamster and goldfish that ever died and don't want that anymore.

And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.

i read this post with sadness as my best friend buster is unwell, buster is my cat who turned up on my doorstep 18 years ago-he was ill when he first arrived and had lived in the fields for some time, after a few visits to the vet and some care he got strong and has been by my side ever since.
all my children have grown up with buster in their lives so this is very difficult for them, for me its real bad because he first came to me when i was 18 years old,he has moved house with me 4 times and moved country once.
how a person can get so attached to an animal is beyond sense but to me he is very dear.
till the day i die i will always love him,so yes pets have must have a soul or a person would not get these feelings

Yeah the little guy is waiting for you.

Hope you got a picture of him, and keep it displayed.  Never forget him/her.

Give your new doggie all the love you had for your lost one and more.

It takes time, and you will feel better eventually.   I know.

My last dog died recently from old age. Looked similar to your dog. I loved her so. Had her for about 15 years. She died in my arms, she simply stopped breathing. :'(

I don't plan to own another dog. I don't want to go through the feeling of the lost again.

Another dog I had before her also died like yours. It got ran over. Stupid idiot that ran him over never even stopped. It's worst to see the dog in pain and you can't do anything about it then simply see him die. It was a traumatic moment in my adolescent life.

Sorry about your loss. I know the feeling.

And I too hope someday I will re-unite with my beloved pets. I guess its the only thing I have to look forward to when I go.

By the way, my brother sent me this article about pets and the afterlife after my dog passed away. it made me feel better after reading it.

Sorry for your loss.

It's a reason why I don't want any pets anymore. I remember every cat, hamster and goldfish that ever died and don't want that anymore.

It's been 4 years since my cat died I was starting to getting the itch for another one.  Last month I was watching a friend’s house.  She has three cats one of them was really old and slightly blind.  It wouldn't stand up one day so I brought it to the vets.  The cat peed on the table.  The vet said he's an old cat, one year older than they usually live and by the smell of the urine he has a urinary infection.  The vet said he could treat the infection but said the quality of life for the cat was low.

My friend's sister met me at the vet's and she interrupted the vet and said, since the owner is out of town I think you should treat the infection.

the cat died that night.

My itch for getting a pet is gone.

Sorry I'm coming to the party late. :-[

Daywane, it's been 7 years since my dog died.  I miss her still to this day.  Remarkably unremarkable, there apparently were TONS of dogs that were born that look similar to her, and it's still a bit difficult when I see these dogs and they remind me of her.

My "introduction" into my in-law's family included (one month after my wife and I started dating) helping my father-in-law take his dog to the vet and finding out he had cancer that seemed to come out of the blue.  The "replacement" dog (they're never really a replacement, since they worm their way into a separate special place in your heart, right?) now has leukemia, and I honestly stop by their house just to say hi to him while I still can.  I will probably end up taking him when the time comes to put him down.  The brother-in-law - had to help him put down the son of the FIL's dog a few years back, and come to find out, his next dog contracted some screwy disease that's in the soil at all times, and some dogs are just prone to falling prey to the disease, while 99% of all dogs have no issues.

Here he is (something my niece made for her dad).  Doesn't help you, but it sure reminded me of the good times I had with my dog.  I hope it does the same for you.

You’re always in control of your behavior. Sometimes you just control yourself
in ways that you later wish you hadn’t

I thought I lost my cat the other day.  Since I moved into my new place I have a pretty large yard on a not-very-busy street, so I let my cats out.  They're much happier.  The other night I woke up at about 3 or 4 a.m. to a barely audible constant cry.  I immediately went and checked my baby girl, but she was sound asleep.  When I came back in my bedroom, my movements woke my wife and I asked if she could hear it.  She said that she was sure she had let both Simon and Penelope back in the house before we went to bed, but I was still curious so I went and opened the front door, but as soon as I did, the cry was drowned out by the chirping of crickets.  Seeing as whatever it was, it wasn't one of my cats or my little girl I locked back up and went to bed.  A few minutes later there was a full-on cat screech (typical cat-fight noise).  It only lasted a few seconds, though.

When I woke up the next morning, Simon was not in the house, and we couldn't find him.  It is completely abnormal for either of my cats to not go nuts at feeding time in the morning and night, but he was nowhere to be seen no matter how loud I called.  I felt bad for not going after him.  The sound that woke me was barely audible.  I should have known that it wouldn't have woke me if it wasn't my cat (I am a selective deep sleeper -- I can sleep through ABSOLUTELY anything, but if my wife whispers my name, or my daughter makes any kind of noise that could indicate distress, or the CD in my alarm clock starts spinning up to get ready to wake me, I wake immediately).

I was home all day, and searched the yard multiple times, and walked around the block with my little girl calling for him.  I went to the neighbor's house who has two big, aggressive dogs and asked to look around his back yard, but my cat wasn't there.  We were really worried that he had a run-in with a wild animal, maybe a possum or an alligator.  My cat is neutered and has never, in all his nine years gone on an out-of-yard adventure.

But that night he showed up.  He was just laying on the front porch like nothing had ever happened.  He didn't seem hungry.  He wasn't dirty.  I couldn't find any injuries.  I think probably he did run into a predator, whether an alligator or just a very big dog, but it just scared him bad enough to run off and stay away for a day.  I still let them out, though.  I know that they may get killed, by an animal or a car, but they are much much happier and healthier cats since they've been able to go outside.
