Key Switch
« on: February 15, 2008, 11:22:25 am »
I want to incorporate a key switch on my cab to switch from credit button/coin door to coin credit only. Does anyone have any recommendations as to a good source for this type of switch? I would prefer a tube type switch that will mount in my 3/4" mdf.

Thanks!

I have one that I believe is made by Allen Bradley.  It's BIG.  I'll post a pic of it when I get home.

I would think this should work.  http://www.amazon.com/Key-Switch-with-2-Keys/dp/B0002BA3PE.  I have some toggle switches mounted inside the coin door where the test switches were originally to do the same thing.

I have this exact switch. It will work but it will not fit in a 3/4" hole. You might be able to modify a button and drop it in the button casing.

You can pick up a cheap keyed ignition switch at Autozone/Advance Auto.

Your coin door already has a keyed entry though, so just put a toggle inside there.

I thought he was going through 3/4" mdf not a 3/4" hole, am I not reading the original correctly?

Well, here it is:

It's kind of a beast.  Momentary, two position switch.   Won't work on a 3/4" deep surface, though.  1/2", maybe 5/8".

After reading the posts about already having key access from the coin door, a switch mounted inside does seem the more logical choice. Thanks!!

No, I misread it.

Good call.

I've not got much experience with these types of switches.

Could one of these be used in theory to replicate the key-turn switches that replaced start buttons on cabinets like Outrunners?

I'm about to start work on a driving cabinet and this would be a nice touch.

I'm not too sure how those work. The one I have is a momentary swith but you can also get them in the latched variety (on/off)

I think momentary would be needed as it would have to replicate the microswitch connection of a regular start button.
